He would argue he has seen the job to the end, promotion and then championship midtable
He couldn't argue that, he's explained that the plan is to get Brighton to the premiership.

I think Gus needs to take a long look at the Premier League table. They are seven points adrift of safety with only eight games left. They are almost certainly going down in my book. As others have said, there is probably more chance of us going up than them staying up. Even if we weren't promoted, would he really be better off managing Reading in the Championship instead of us? I am sure he would prefer to stay, given all he has built here and his relationship with the players and the club. But I guess at the end of the day money talks, and if the financial incentive is favourable enough he will leave.

Having had time to dwell on this, I'd be quite disappointed in Gus personally if he chose this moment to move on.

I appreciate he cares more about his career more than he does about BHA. I know there is little loyalty in football. But to leave now, for Reading, at the moment when a two or three year plan may be about to come to fruition, would be pretty poor form. Yes, he's done wonders for the club, but equally the board have backed him, and allowed him to mould the club in his own image. He doesn't exactly "owe us" but I would hope he'd have the honour and integrity to recognise that we need him to guide us to the end of this season, a few short months away.

If a big club came knocking at this moment - well, we all know that Gus is aiming high and we'd probably take it reasonably well and wish him luck. But to jump ship now, for Reading, would really sour my view of Poyet. I hope it doesn't happen because it will forever taint my view of one of the greatest Albion managers.

I would also add that in the few years he has been with the Albion I have always believed he was here to do a job and that was to get the Albion up into the premiership and keep them there and I have also believed he is a man who is on this mission
if I were betting man I would say its 70/30 but its football and anything can happen

I think Gus will stay if he gets certain assurances from Tony Bloom. If we are still in the Championship next season, he will want a budget which means we are capable for challenging for automatic promotion next season.

I'm not saying we should loosen the purse strings any further, but I reckon Poyet will walk if we don't.

Poyet to Reading thread, massively odds on, (maybe) in talks with them [merged]

Gus has said since he joined us it will take something special to leave us.

Are Reading special enough?

I think not

Let's hope the following comes out of this whole episode....

The directors realise that the only issue that would ever tempt Poyet away is his repeated concerns over the player budget, subsequently the directors meet today and one of the first things they do is extend Poyets contract and give him an increase in player budget as a sweetener.

I'm sure the directors appreciate that Poyet is pivotal in the clubs progression over the next few years both on and off the pitch.

If this happened I rather hope TB would let him walk. I find it hard to believe that Gus would try that on with TB anyway tbh. He has always been quite straight up and honorable as far as I am aware. Trying to force TB's hand with a rejection of Reading on the condition he ups the budget is unlikely to work imo.

I don't understand if Reading and their Russian owner have such a MASSIVE budget to turn Poyets head why didn't they use it last Summer or in the January transfer window ? A lot easier to stay in the PL than to do get promotion especially with a manager who hasn't quite grasped how to even get a team to the Championship playoffs

I for one hope Tony Bloom does not bend to any requests for more wages etc for the squad for Poyet to stay and I trust he would not.

The financial stability of the Albion is the single most imporant thing.

Perhaps he won't, but at worst if Poyet goes to Reading he will have a Chamoionship club wih a much bigger budget than ours.

I guess it would then boil down to whether has faith in the current squad to get us up with a couple of key additions.
