No chance that he would consider Reading. It's a smaller club, with lower potential and no chance of staying in the Premier League. The only reason the betting went mad is that the bookies, like most of the media, are so Premier League fixated that they are blind to facts like BHA are the 10th best supported club in the UK. I still think of you and your 3-4,000 fans at Elm Park.

Later clarified by the same account as NOT meant to confirm a thing. Read his whole timeline.

And we don't hate you. I can't think of a single Brighton fan that does. You're a club who would be reasonably comparable to us if you had any tradition or vocal support and therefore a fairly decent yardstick for our progress. By June we could be in a higher division than you.

We don't hate Reading, they don't register anywhere on our hate radar, personally I consider Reading about as relevant as say Oxford or Aldershot in terms of how much I would want to know about them or be interested in anything about the club.

mind you with posts like this on your forum you aren't helping yourselves:

Lol, just the mail speculating! Any person could make the reasonable assumption that a new manager would be offered a transfer budget, hardly cutting edge journalism is it. Anyway back to Reading, to highlight what an anonymous nondescript club it is I couldn't even name one of your players, wouldnt have a clue who your main rivals are? MK Dons, Swindon, Oxford? If Poyet did leave us for you I wouldn't be that bothered to be honest, the way the Albion are heading we would attract a top class manager equal to or better than Poyet so feel free to spunk your cash on buying out his contract, cheerseasy.

Easy piece to write though. Good to see he has major reservations about going.

In simple terms if he has been given assurances over a transfer budget then he needs to be having a word with Bloom which I'm sure he is. If personal terms are better again the balls in Bloom's court. If Bloom is going to equal or get close to the offer/s made by Reading then I'm pretty sure the answer would be in our favour.

Maybe he's just after a pay rise.
With a parachute payment of some speculated 60 million I can't see Reading being in the Championship very long.
Not much to be said for loyalty and couldn't happen at a worse time of the season.
He could at least have the decency to see this season through.
I would rather have someone who keeps their mouth shut and gets on with the job, he likes the limelight a bit too much.
To be honest he has been touting himself for some time and as chairman I would have sat him down and discussed his intentions, maybe they have and that is why he has been given permission to talk.
Whatever the outcome, if goes he will be disliked by all the fans, but if he stays there will a lot of fans who will never view him in the same light again and always see the appointment as temporary.
He is doing what he likes best, making headlines in newspapers on TV.

My thoughts on the whole thing..

If Gus has chosen to talk to Reading then we might be better off waving him goodbye now. Clearly his talk of only wanting a move to a 'special' club (Chelsea, Spurs, Zaragoza) is no longer the case. He basically wants a move to the PL as soon as possible, whether that be to any old established one, or in this case, one which will have a big enough kitty to get him back immediately after relegation.

If he doesn't take the Reading job then we're going to have an entire summer of speculation linking him with ANY available PL vacancy, or a Championship club with a bigger budget than us. (of which there'll be a fair few)
If this is to be the case then I'd rather have someone committed in place now.

Someone who doesn't see themselves as bigger than the club. Someone who can spend the summer budget on their players & targets, not someone appointed in August after Gus has decided to accept the biggest offer on the table.
I accept that if Gus goes now then our promotion hopes may end, but in all honesty are we ready for top flight football? I think not, not quite.

Under Gus we have spent £1m on Buckley, £3m on CMS, £2m on Ulloa, not to mention the undisclosed fees and mega wages the likes of Vincente are on. He needs to realise that he has been backed in the transfer market, and the sort of money he's spent is an awful lot for our club. If that's not good enough for him, and if he doesn't feel that he's good enough himself to achieve what he wants with that sort of backing then maybe it's time for everyone to move on.

Dont agree with that at all....until its been confirmed that he has asked to speak with them, i cant see how you can go on that at all.

Anyone who is 'sucessfull' with a club is in danger of moving on whether 'committed' or not ....its the way of football surely?
