I agree. There is excellent evidence that managers do not make that much difference. Gus's obsession with possession and defensive line-ups has probably cost us promotion this year.

The only issue is the attracting of players but I reckon that is overstated.

We can still go up this year and I for one think we will, if Gus goes the next man has it easy go for it this season and succeed all is good, new man fails then everyone blames Gus.

But bookmakers can you trust them

I hope tony bloom has Spanish Dave in his office discussing a new contract right now. Don't want Gus to take him!

Is there an option to bet Poyet NOT going to Reading? ie if he's odds on to be the next Reading manager, I must be able to get some damn good odds of him not becoming Reading manager!

Poyet going to Reading would be about as much of a great career move as Micky Adams leaving to be the second in command at Leicester.

first time I have looked at this thread, probably because its all assumptions and really would he go to a team/club that we might just replace in the premiershite ....I doubt this very much, Gus will stay to do the job he started
anyway my Mrs recons that he would not go until the end of the season anyway and she thinks he will stay to do a job

and she is normally right about most things even football things

When McDermott got sacked, he took a six figure fee with him. Would the Reading chairman want to take the risk of paying us money for Poyet or would he rather go for someone like Nigel Adkins who's available for free?

He is rich enough not too worry about that I would think.

That's a good point, isn't Gus' buy-out clause like £2-3m?

Re: Poyet backed for Reading job...

Bit less now as he's a year less on his contract, but the Russian has so far shown little desire to spend the cash.

Never trust these markets. It takes peanuts to move them and suddenly it all snowballs. Ring up William Hill and say you want £5k on Nigel Adkins to be next Reading manager. You won't get on, they will say you can have £20 on. He is currently 11/2. In 15 minutes after your phone call he will be even money.

Yep seems like an easy way for bookies to con mug punters..suddenly slash odds, twitter hype etc.. There's already 3 or 4 on here !!

Di Canio would be a better bet. He'll create an instant feeling around the club. He'll eventually explode but if they were looking long term they would have kept McDermott.
Gus will stay.

1.55 & 1.5 so far, jumped too soon. Have more up at around 1.1 but seems to have stabilised a bit now and starting to drift.
