I think I fall in the negative camp about suggesting we need 7, whether we do or not. We are basically saying to 7 players that when we get promoted, they won't be first choice. Better to have said there are a couple of areas where we will need strengthening and leave it at that. Too much info is dangerous.

No but it does say '“That doesn’t mean the new ones are going to play week in and week out. It could be the same team or three new players or two or six.' So I was wrong to say seven when Gus said it could be 6. The message is the same. I personally don't think he should have referred to that many.

But you are still completely missing the point. He is not saying that six or seven of our first team are not good enough and will be replaced by new players. He is saying there will be up to seven new players but not necessarily all or any in the starting line up so if anything it is a challenge to the players currently in the side. I do wonder sometimes whether people on here are just looking to find reasons to be negative.

I think that what Gus is saying is what everybody already can see, the SQUAD isnt strong enough. With injuries and suspensions our bench looks very weak as was shown yesterday. If and when we move up a division this will be more obvious and I think that we will need a better striker sitting on the bcnch than Sandaza and Holroyd and a younger version of Tarrico plus a midfielder in the mould of Jamie O Hara , not him but similar type, who can get forward and score goals. By saying he may bring in 7 is stating the obvious it is now upt o those players out of contract to play out of their skins to secure a new deal.

Does anyone else think any talk of new players for next season can do nothing but harm the morale of the current squad who have done a magnificent job to get us where we are? Surely we should be head down, focused & pushing for the line, not looking beyond it. At least not openly.

Perhaps its just me but does anyone else thinks that statements like this might have a rather demotivating effect on some of the players. Its almost like were saying go on and get us promotion and then some of you who've done that will be out of a job. I would have thought thats not much of a motivation for some of the fringe players who we will probably need n the closing stages.

Shouldn't do - they are professional players who play on short contracts. Even if Gus doesn't offer them a new contract because he doesn't think they'll be good enough for the next division up, they're still not going to be out of work, are they?

As members of a team that has bossed this league for most of the season so far, they'll be in demand - plenty of other clubs in the division next year will be wanting to buy into some of what we've had this season!
