The dull part of the south coast
People are obsessed with hating Poyet. I love him. He got us from a relegation fight in League 1 to the play offs in the championship in just over 3 years. Brighton legend in my eyes.

Football needs characters like Gus.
Well yes, he achieved a lot with little, old Brighton in a short space of time. Promotion, in charge when moving to our spanking new home after living in digs for 14 years, darling of the media and with a damn good knack of attracting players otherwise bound for other clubs.

This we all know. It was the manner of his departure and his demeanour that irked most fans. And, most important, the timing - at the nearest point for decades that we had a very realistic chance of getting into the Premier League.

Brighton / Hove actually
Ref over-reacted. Violent conduct against a drinks box? Really?

Bruce was the one got away with the violent conduct. He had to be physically held back by the lino for a good 30 secs. He was shoving back against the lino trying to get at Gus.

And Bridcutt. That tackle was sickening. Straight red every time.

Ref had a 'mare.

I think Poyet got away with it. Had Bruce got hold of him it would have been three falls and a submission.

I haven't actually seen the footage but read that Bruce reacted when Poyet clapped him sarcastically, leaning in and making a comment that Bruce reacted to, so not quite as simple as you are suggesting?

I know Gus is important in Albion history but let's let him go now - he's Sunderland's worry, not ours. If we want to talk about managers who shaped our history, why not Stevie Gritt?
Wouldn't say gus was important in our history....Done just aswell with peanut finances i,e Barry Lloyd and even Mickey adams build a great side that basically gave us double championships...only 8 clubs have done that.

Gus had a big budget and a new stadium and the feel good factor....
You're spot on

Agreed & very true but he remains a cockwomble for letting his ego take over all rational thought. He did well for us but let's not forget we did well for him.

There was an article in the Daily Mail today about Poyet and Sunderland as below

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet's dismissal during the Premier League game against Hull adds to the club's reputation for having the worst-behaved dug-out in the the top flight.
And the PL Fair Play League standings back up the belief that Poyet, along with his super aggressive trio of assistants -- Argentine Mauricio Taricco, Charlie Oatway and goalkeeping coach Andy Beasley -- target officials and provoke the opposition more than any other unit.
Sunderland are bottom of the the Fair Play table mainly due to the club picking up by far the fewest merit points for the conduct of their coaching staff and the respect -- or lack of it -- shown to referees and their assistants.
Poyet and his backroom team had a similar approach at Brighton, where the Uruguayan chose the dug-out that was in the best spot for targeting linesmen. Current Brighton manager Chris Hughton has switched the home dug-out to the other side of the halfway line.
Poyet was sent off in Brighton's opening game at the Amex stadium in August 2011 for showing dissent by kicking over water bottles.
It is understood Sunderland are aware of the Poyet issue and are taking steps to address it.

No drink bottles are safe with him around.
They may have been strategically placed, if his weakness was found out.???

I have seen the footage and it is pretty much exactly as you describe. I'm not a fan of Bruce but I'm not sure he did much wrong except react to provocation from Gus. I still don't understand what issue Gus had with Bruce, who had nothing to do with him being sent to the stands (as far as I could see).

Oh great - loads of people moaning about the fact there is another thread about Gus.

Anyone would think there was a clue in the title, and they had the chance to ignore it :dunce:

Came the day after what Poyet admitted was one of his most difficult days in football management, following the arrest of midfielder Adam Johnson. To be charitable, maybe he was under more stress than normal. To be realistic though, the bloke continues to give every impression of being a Grade-A nutter.

Exactly, if any moving on is required it's from people who cannot resist opening the thread and sounding surprised/exasperated/bored/annoyed about the details contained in a thread that they'd rather not be reading

Quite honestly I think "Oaters" is a bit of a "character", and I was surprised that he ended up at Sunderland. I suspect he probably deals with discipline issues like the Johnson saga.

When Gus walks out of the tunnel at the Amex on the next occasion with Sunderland, Leeds, Reading or whoever, I will stand and applaud him, as will I'm sure all the others in the stadium.
I won't he's a cock. He did well yes but then he had the biggest budget any Albion manager has had in the last thirty years.

Have you had dealings with him then? I should try to read his autobiography I guess.

Do you need to have dealing with someone to form an opinion of them? I have never had dealings with Miliband, Cameron, Sturgeon and Farage but I have formed an opinion of them all without reading their biographies.
