is this the future of snooker? I'm not a fan of the game but i appreciate that there are many on NSC who do. So what are your thoughts?

Games last 30 minutes. Highest score wins.
Nine reds, instead of 15, in a diamond formation next to pink
Potting middle red triggers two-minute PowerPlay where pots count double
20-second limit for shots with 20-point penalty for exceeding time
A break-off must see at least two reds hit a cushion
Century breaks worth 50 bonus points

I love my tactical battles too much personally. I get just as much satisfaction from watching top class safety play/snookering as I do watching Rocket Ronnie whizzing around the table potting everything in sight. Can obviously see what they're trying to do though.

Any more information on how it's being introduced exactly?

Well SOMETHING needs to liven it up.

Exciting players and a few more characters will liven up proper Snooker, add to that a bit more money from bigger sponsers and a few fit wags and every impressionable kid in the land will want to get into the game.

I play a very poor standard of Snooker, and I watch as much as I can on TV. And I don't agree that it needs jazzing up. It might appeal to the people who think the game is just about point scoring and potting balls, but it's not. It's about far more than that, and this "speed snooker" is just a jazzed up version of the game, but will never be anywhere near as popular as proper snooker.

It's a fantastic idea, and will be sure to get young people back interested in snooker. Like the twenty20 is good for cricket and shouldn't deflect from the beauty of test cricket I see the same here for snooker, the World Championships will always be one of the highlights of the British sporting calendar and still played over far longer formats.
