Their goal had been coming since the start of the second half - and after it they had another 4/5 really good chances to score that they didn't take - Brighton's defence was very shaky at times last night.

Some of the comments last night - not from me - I wasn't the only one who thought things were a bit shaky at the back

Feck me, what a desperate sad individual you are.

Very creepy.

there is something wrong with your internal brain architecture

Indeed. Added to the fact that at 1-1, in the 80th minute at the Emirates we had FIVE Albion players in their box when we bagged our winner. As was the case for the injury time winner v Everton.

In each of those cases, we'd barely have been crossing the halfway line last season under those circumstances.

Murray would have been in their half......about 60 yards from his nearest teammate

The strategy appears to be 24-7 relentless posting, using attrition to bore everyone to death.

A childish mindset that having the last word, makes them ‘the winner’.

Sad.

This is plaguing NSC of late.
All without actually expressing a firm opinion.... Actually he may have I've stopped reading. .

Just loves the attention I think. The immature crave any attention over no attention even if it is negative.

One of the best comments of Potterball came from Pardew before the game. The commentator asked Pardew what it would take for Brighton to win. He said to be brave. He then said to GPott that he set up very bravely and that he (Pardew) would not have set up the team like that.

When one of your peers (even kn0bhead ones) admit that they were too chicken to 'go for it' at the Emerates, that's got to be a ringing endorsement.

We just got three points so CH would have had to draw three to match it, which three games we have lost would CH have got at least a point in then?

Spoiler - you are going to struggle here

Lol I see you just edited your post to suggest that CH would have also got a win last night. I give up, you win

Only your opinion. I have my own opinion.

Obviously there's no guarantee which games we would and wouldn't have scored a point in.
Breaks? We didn't get breaks. We were easily the better side. It's unlikely we'd have won that with Hughton in charge.

How can you say that? CH won a lot of matches. Your memory of CH is tainted by your dislike of his style.

:lolol: Behave CH only managed 1pt in two seasons at the so called big six. Now you have him down for a shoe in 1-0 win at the Emirates.

It's that kind of ultra-drivel that makes me believe all talk of CH needs a holiday from NSC.

Posters have clearly lost sight of their core beliefs while searching for 'statements'.

No need to give Hughton s***

I agree with your point though. This is the reason our midfield have got time to get on the ball and get their heads up this season, but didn't last time round. It's getting us more goals than it's losing us

This is what slightly exasperates me about talking about the past and why I always feel bad debating JRG.

You've acknowledged you agree with my analysis of the current style. ALL I am saying is that Potter represents more risk and reward than Hughton did in the Premier League. In The Championship it was a different story, of course. We attacked teams we knew were lesser than us. We hit teams that were our match on the break (in a different way, often the long diagonal or Knocky dribbling out, both of which are risky, but different). But in the PL we sat back too much. It drove me mad. It drove the people I sit with mad. And Bloom is far more of a risk taker than me.

The only way you can truly appreciate the present is to compare it with the past. You have to do so fairly, of course. Hughton isn't off limits but mentioning his caution in the last six months isn't giving him shit. It's a fact. It's also a fact that he's the most successful manager we've ever had, or certainly tied with Mullery. Both are true.

Unquestionably much better to watch this season, and last night's result brings confidence that playing the so-called big six doesn't always mean we have to roll over - granted the state of Arsenal doesn't afford them a current top six billing really at present.
We didn't roll over away to Liverpool at the weekend either, and they're not too shabby.

My one gripe with Potter is the obsession with playing out from the back, making several risky passes in the penalty area, before often sending it long anyway. Against Leicester at home it seemed madness to ask Duffy to prove yet again that he's not great on the ball - and in many games the pressure from opposition forwards unsettles us. I guess the need to play short passes, now that the ball doesn't need to leave the penalty area from goalkicks, will evolve slowly, but my heart is often in my mouth when the dangerous passing routine kicks off again.
I know what you mean, it feels it's only a matter of time before one of them ****s it up and gives away an easy goal. But the players are getting more used to it (obviously we did it under Gus and sometimes under Chris) and you could see against Arsenal how we'd eventually get the ball through their press and they'd have several players out of position. With Murray up front, that might not matter to them, but with Maupay and Connolly's pace it becomes a risk for the opposition, so they'll often give up with the press, meaning we can retain the ball and release pressure (if we've been under any). Incidentally, Stephens is like a changed man with our new quick passing.

My Potter gripe is the high line we used against Leicester. I cannot fathom how he thought we'd get away with that. We're not particular short of defenders at the moment, but when we do get another I hope they're bloody quick.

My two-penneth:

- love the style of play. Occasionally we need to mix it up with a few more direct balls from Webster and Dunk - we profited from these at Watford and Liverpool (the red card)

- great to see young players given not only a chance but so much faith. Connolly up top on his own vs Liverpool, Alzate at right back

- enjoying the tactical flexibility. Pundits were poring over our team selection on Thursday trying to figure out roles and formations. Must be a nightmare to play against

- encouraged by the cohesion between the recruitment department and the manager. Webster, Mooy, Maupay and Trossard all featured on Thursday. Much better after a couple of years of misfits

- a team not individuals. There aren’t many guaranteed starters, we’ve got rid of the prima donnas and are no longer reliant on Sir Glenn

I’m loving the ride

we lose 1-0 minimum

Other than we drew there last season.

Edit - Reading your other posts, totally understand you don’t like CH’s brand of football, it’s all opinions..... but the fact is on a bottom 3 budget for two seasons, he kept us in the league, and has put us in a place for Potter to move us forward.

Spot on.

My only frustration is how easily we are undone by any sort of movement on set pieces.

If you remember Hughton was irritated when Sean Dyche mentioned how easily we conceded at set pieces the season we missed out......... so we bought Shane Duffy, and I honestly think that is who we miss most when defending.

Really? You seem to be suggesting we never had a lapse in defence under CH.

Of course we did, but fewer from a pure defensive perspective. A lot of the goals we’ve conceded have been preventable.

With all due respect - how am I being negative - in my opinion Brighton were lucky to survive last season. You need a bit of luck in football and Hughton got it when Fulham and Palace beat Cardiff, without these results he would have been relegated for the first time in his career.

finally... reality dawns!

I am concerned about a weakness in our defence but I am sure that GP will address that. I think the telling comment at Arsenal was a match pundit, not sure whether it was Shearer in the commentary or Pardew, said the difference was 11 players playing against a team in Black. Which summed us and our performance up well.

Hit nail on head last post last season we survived by skin of our teeth playing like a team who shouldn't be in the premier league. Tottenham away and 1St half Newcastle at home when we were appalling to say the least. It seemed the players dare I say it weren't playing for sir Chris for whatever reasons and yes we stank the league out with our boring football. Now we have a manager who is coaching the players making them better bringing some young talent through from under 23s and they are thriving. We are now being looked at as a good side and even the top teams don't take Brighton as a routine victory. Pep last game said he knew city would win once we took the lead not necessarily through arrogance but he knew the only way we could play. He won't be saying that again when he visits the amex later this season that's for sure
