I don't read too much into the fact we have let them talk to Potter, that's our policy. Personally, I think he would be a fool to go and I think better opportunities await over the horizon. If he does go, he'll be there for no more than 2 years, because that's the Chelsea way. Their fans will have very high expectations which will cause loads of pressure.

We’ll get a new long term contract out of him and I’ll be over the moon with delight. He’ll be sacked by 2024 if he goes to Chelsea, he does not do short term strategies. Swanny has called this right.

Apologies for starting another thread on this, but I thought it worthy of its own discussion.

There have been a fair few comments along the lines of the thread title, that Graham Potter will want to finish his project/job at the Albion before wanting to move on.

Those who are making that sort of comment - and anyone else who cares to chip in - what do you see as marking the point when Potter's job/project is complete and he will be ready to look for a new challenge?

He will want to get Brighton into Europe and compete in that stage before taking on a club in the Champions League.

For example I had a company approach me today and offered me 4 times my salary and working for a much larger corporation.

I politely told them I was working on a BRILLIANT spreadsheet at the moment and I didn't want to move until I had that finished.

But if you replace "spreadsheet" with "movie".

You're writer and director. It's your vision. You've found producers and casting agents really easy to work with. It's a beautiful set. Everyone within the production and media is saying positive things.

But you've only been shooting for few days.

Maybe - just maybe - you want to see how it ends....

Guess it will depend upon how much assurance Potter will be given that Chelsea are now genuinely looking for a long-term project rather than usual churn manager in churn manager out every season model so far. Time to turn off and find something else to do.

Great we have started well but first of all I must say all this praise of Brighton after just 6 games is so over the top.
No confirmation he is speaking to Chelsea. Could well be just Sky talk.
As I said in other thread he is on a huge salary .likes the way club is run, Young children settled in area and wife involved with local community. Appreciate they could continue to live here but I just feel that at this stage of his career and the age of his children it would be, what is best for family that would come first

With the risk that the movie suddenly doesn't turn out as hoped and the big studio never come back to offer you the big bucks and bigger budget for an even better movie?

I'm not one of those you've identified in your post above, but my view would be that I would hope he would consider the "Brighton project" as unfinished business until he's got us into a European competition. And then once that happens, I would hope he would stick around to see out that next season as well.

In reality he finished 9th in the knowledge he was going to lose his main midfielder, would probably lose his Player Of The Season left-back, needed to replace Dan Burn and would possibly also lose his top goalscorer of his 3 previous seasons at the club. Therefore, that's a major amount of work just to stand still. To improve on 9th means holding off all the other clubs below - including moneybags Newcastle - and leapfrogging Leicester.

To reach 7th spot and Europe we'd have to finish above West Ham, a club that have added Lucas Paqueta, Scammacca, Cornet, Emerson, Aguerd and Kehrer to their ranks. To do that we'd need all replacement signings to succeed, for Welbeck to stay injury-free and for 3 of our midfielders to have double-digit goalscoring output - something that none of them have ever done before.

The balance of probability on all of that happening is unlikely, yet if a manager was able to make that happen why would they stay around when having the ability to do that would mean winning trophies at bigger clubs?

There is a reason why - after just 6 matches - the Prem Top 7 is the usual Big 6 with us as the only outsider.
