[Albion] "Potter will want to finish his project at Brighton first"

Apologies for starting another thread on this, but I thought it worthy of its own discussion.

There have been a fair few comments along the lines of the thread title, that Graham Potter will want to finish his project/job at the Albion before wanting to move on.

Those who are making that sort of comment - and anyone else who cares to chip in - what do you see as marking the point when Potter's job/project is complete and he will be ready to look for a new challenge?

It makes complete sense.

For example I had a company approach me today and offered me 4 times my salary and working for a much larger corporation.

I politely told them I was working on a BRILLIANT spreadsheet at the moment and I didn't want to move until I had that finished.

There's no such thing as a managerial 'project' in football, much as a manager might like to think so. A project has a beginning, a middle and an end. Whereas a football club just rumbles on, with a manager either leaving it in a better state or a worse state than he found it in

If I was GP, I'd carry on with this project until a 'stable owner' CL club such as ManC, LFC or Arsenal came along.

Progressing us, but TB has to provide support in the transfer market.

He's so good (and time's on his side) that I truly think this won't be a case of "He threw away a once in a career opportunity".

Imho Boely et al will demand CL and EPL trophies in no time at all. When Mansour, Real, PSG and now the Saudis have through cheating endless pots of money.

For me, it's qualifying for Europe. But the initial goal was to be a regular top ten finish team. I guess he has achieved that once and has made a good start to achieving it again this season.

But I've moved on. Graham who?

I would regard the point when Potter's project is complete, as when we are competing in the Champions League. Perhaps not winning it, but competing.

A top 10 finish... Oh.

Its simply an easy statement to make, to if you are trying to kid yourself he wont be interested in moving to Chelsea.

The only way Potter doesnt leave us and go to Chelsea is if he doesn't see a decent long term future in the role and believes other offers will come along for him in the near future. His work at Brighton is done, the big boys are after him now.

That would be my question too, at what point will he consider his job here complete?

Having worked 35 years in IT I have seen many an interesting "project" abandoned when a change of circumstances emerged.

I think Potter would like to see us in the top six and qualify for Europe. Potters first job was survival, second to hit some level of mid-table mediocrity, the third job to establish the club in the top ten with a punchers chance at top six. The first two have been achieved, the third is very much a work in progress but off to a good start.

I am not completely ruling out a move to Chelsea for Potter, but they will have to convince him of the worthiness of their project and the working environment they are going to give him. I'd be surprised if he'd just answer the phone and say yes off the bat just because they are a "big" club. I'm not sure they can deliver what he wants

Potter will surely go to chelsea. It looks a rubbish fit to me but it is his big chance. I will be gutted but bloom will have a plan and on we go.

I'm guessing when he feels like he's taken the club as far as he can would be an answer.

Permission given for Potter to speak to Chelsea, and he is on his way for talks, That probably gives an answer that whether the project is finished or not, if what he hears at Chelsea he will be gone.

Well that would mean breaking into the top four come the end of a season. I tell you that isn't going to happen for one hell of a long time yet, never mind going on to do well in the Champions League.

Top 7 and European qualification. Outside the 'big 6', being the best of the rest.

Dyche did it with Burnley.

Koeman did it with Southampton.

Moyes did it with West Ham.

Potter can do it with Brighton.

I think he’s staying. I think he’d like the Liverpool set up under FSG far better than the chelsea one.
Give it a couple days f years to cement his Rep, then a really big club.

He is going looks fairly certain. The timing of this is just horrible - if he had gone next summer after another great season then i would be genuinely really happy for him - but if he goes now i will be booing him when he returns with Chelsea and i hope he fails . I get the fact that this must be a great chance for him but it just shows what little respect he has for us - so i am not going to show him any respect if he goes .
