Would the players he abandoned midseason welcome him back?

Maybe being they're all in the same industry they didn't take it personally, I wouldn't be suprised if some did though.

I think you just need to read some of their comments post his departure to explain just how gutted and abandoned the plays felt.

Him returning wouldn’t be good for any parties.

Me too - still posting on the Chelsea forum apparently, or so I was told when said I missed Swansman’s contrubutions
Swansman! That was the name. It had already slipped from my mind.

Granted, he had his moments. But he also had his "not moments".

And note, @Tom Hark Preston Park , he's back here using a new name. With some posting restrictions. All going fine so far.
i've known that since his first post, when he couldn't resist a sideswipe at 'THPP'. What's the chances of a brand new user doing that eh? Especially when you've been living rent-free in the head of the old banned user for yonks. Besides, he's back here with more than one username. Besides #2 we gave a nod and a wink to each other while he was ostensibly banned. His style is pretty much instantly recognisable. And very very readable. Mind you, if he was really smart he'd be earning a very decent living as Sweden's answer to Julie Burchill instead of wasting his life away on here

I used to love Julie Burchill 45 years ago. Like a young Bron Waugh - selecting random and contradictory issues to champion and people to pillory. Never knowingly balanced and never knowingly reasonable.

I wonder if swanny has a weird squeaky voice?

Me too. And Tony Parsons. Still got a double signed copy of 'The Boy Looked At Johnny' somewhere. Used to love, and avidly devour, both parties trite-in-retrospect writings, even tho they beat me - and a thousand others - to the Hip Young Gunslingers gig at the NME. Booooo

One of my old flat mates was a buddy of Max Bell. I got the impression they had a jolly old time at the NME, ligging ???

Me and bruv used to go up to try and plug Medway Towns stuff to the NME when Danny Baker was the receptionist. You might not find that in his bio 😄

I was at the Vortex on Wardour Street in August 77 to see The Adverts, and after the second support a bloke with a mop of curly hair, tight T shirt and plastic faux leather bomber jacket came on stage to announce the sad demise of Elvis Presley. There was an amount of cheering and laughing (you will recall the soon-after single release by PATTTB 'Elvis is Dead' - the Peel version is ace). Curly boy gets a bit pleady and insistent that this was the sad passing of a great man (fat man would have been nearer to the facts). More jeering. Curly then slunk off. It was Danny Baker.

I may have mentioned this the time I did the Sausage Sandwich game on R5, but he didn't bite. I enjoyed all 3 of his autobiographies. Shame he's not still on the radio. I'm not paying to listen to his blog.

Enjoy your evening. No football. Bah humbug

In his book he does explain why he couldn’t believe people who loved Rock n roll ( let’s face punk is a genre of R&R ) would mock the death of one of the founders of teen rebellion.

I got that reading the book but at the time not so much , although sadly just a few weeks later a proper music hero of mine died and I was very upset.

As John Cale noted at the time: "Elvis died when I did a cover of Heartbreak Hotel".

The death is sad, sure. But Elvis had been stealing a living in a casino for years, and was Not Relevant any more. Especially in 1977. Popping along to announce the death (which we later learned was while straining on the shitter, while only in his early 40s) at a punk rock gig was naïve of Baker. I seem to recall Baker was fonder og Oi! than punk, and in recent years has stated that musinc ended in 1977.

Anyway, if any in the audience knew of the death at the time they weren't celebrating. And the mockery was for Baker more than anything else, for being a tit. His recollection of the event in his own words don't map to my recollection.

Anyway, all a long time ago now.....
