Off topic I fitted one of those cheap Chinese instant hot water taps yesterday the customer bought from Amazon. It lasted all of two minutes producing hot water absolute pile of crap 🤣
I’m not surprised, I wouldn’t have fitted it as someone would probably blame me because it stopped working :annoyed:

If I had enough money to retire now I definitely would, i could be quite happy walking around the countryside with my dog

Don’t you get stressed when working though?
Maybe GP didn’t like the stress involved with being a PL coach and now enjoying a relaxing lifestyle. I don’t blame him not going back to work when Chelsea are paying him millions.
I'd be genuinely amazed if he doesn't get back into management at some point.
I think after Chelsea he thought I'll have a good old suckle at Todd's flabby teat until a real juicy job comes up that I can't refuse. That didn't really happen, but now the cash is in the bank the lure of another crack at glory will be too strong I reckon. He's still young.

Hmmm that's exactly what l thought too, but it's been getting on for eighteen months since his dismissal from Chelsea and he is still out of the game. If what we are led to believe is true, he has had the odd offer, but turned them down.

“I was sacked after seven months of a five-year contract after being taken from Brighton, so there's also all that on a human level you have to deal with”

’Taken’?

Was he abducted?

“I don't think [Chelsea] was the only opportunity I was going to get because I left Brighton in a really, really good place.”

Apparently it was - until now

I do have to ask though, why hasn’t the FA appointed anything more than an interim coach for England yet when Potter is sitting around filing his nails for TV appearances? Or maybe, this is Potter getting in some pre-England appointment PR?

(Very odd interview though. I had to check it wasn’t April 1st.)

I'm 100% sure he's had offers since getting sacked from Chelsea.

So, what is the new job? That website hurts the eyes so much I couldn’t find any detail about where he’s going.

His rehabilitation (one interview) is followed up by being a pundit at a game involving (checks notes) one of his former clubs who maybe will be looking for a new manager soon

I seem to recall reading somewhere that he wasn't entitled to the full £60m when he was sacked.
Or that he didn't intend to take it all.

My guess is that he is taking every penny he's entitled to , and rightly so IMO.

I daresay the experience has had some impact to his mental health.
But that is some compensation package for any unpleasantness he has had to deal with.

I'm 100% sure he's had offers since getting sacked from Chelsea.

An expected gut response from you (without any proof) but I suspect the way he left Brighton in the lurch during the on season, taking half our backroom staff with him (promising to come back for key players) purely because the grass looked greener, has done little to endear him to other Premier League Clubs (what club isn’t going to think he won’t do the same to them?).

The fact that by his own admission, the whole episode of going to Chelsea has damaged his mental health and ’didn’t work out’ calls his professional judgement about his own career choices into question too.

I’m sure he will get another job in coaching eventually because he is a very good tactician and development coach but I don’t think he has been or will be the first option for many clubs on the look out for a new manager because of the above.

Ok. Think you're wrong and that he's had a fair number of offers from clubs like Feyenoord, some french clubs, probably Leicester, possibly Brighton.

The first part of your post is based on your emotions, not any sort of sensible reasoning. The same emotions making you believe he hasn't had a single offer from any club in the entire world.

I didn’t say he hadn’t ( read my post again).

But you have no idea and nor have I what if any offers he has had so your ‘100%’ conviction is based on supposition not proof ( which as I say is an expected gut reaction from you as is your defensive attitude to anyone that suggests not every Premier League Club with a manager vacancy will be interested in employing Potter ).

It is also reasonable to surmise that I was referring to offers from a top flight Premier League Clubs not a lower European league like the Eredivisie - which would be a demotion for him. I’m sure he could get a job with some obscure Club somewhere in the world!

As for the rest of my post - it is my years in a professional working environment that is the basis for me saying he probably hasn’t endeared himself much to other clubs in the EPL because of the choices he’s made. He may have had offers but how many would have been the Club’s first choice?

You seem so convinced that he was in the running for Brighton - do you honestly think he turned us down? If not, you have to assume he wasn’t our first choice, which is the point I was making.

Any business wants an employer who is going to commit and not leave at the first offer of more money at a time when the business is relying on him/her - also most employers want an employer who has a good track record in decision making.

Sensible reasoning.

I know he was offered the Sweden manager gig, so thats my 100%. Club jobs, ok, I'm not 100%.

But ok, top flight Premier League clubs you say - maybe he's had offers, maybe not. It is not an universal truth that managing a broke Leicester or Everton is a nicer, better, finer or bigger gig than coaching Ajax or Feyenoord. Many will see it that way, others won't.

As for the "manner of his departure", none of the clubs are going to be "worried about Potter doing to them what he did to us". That's not how anything works. They weren't sitting around in Leicester thinking "dear God what if he keeps our bottom predicted team up for two years before taking us into top 10, all while helping the club making a transfer profit, and finally gets us performing to the point where top 4 club wants him! Oh! The terror!"

Or when it looked like McKenna was leaving Ipswich, did you think they sat in the board room contemplating successors, immediately ruling out Potter: "he took BRUNO!!! Can't hire him. What's Tony Pulis up to these days?"

Its just completely unreal to imagine that clubs would pick a different manager because of Potter asking if Robert Sanchez personal carer and some random former right back wanted to secure their personal finances for the rest of their lives.

I'm not saying that Potter has necessarily been the first choice for any PL club - although I think so - but the idea that clubs are rejecting him for bringing the rest of the coaching team to a new club... its deluded.

You seem determined to put words into my mouth to provide a patsy for your very pro-Potterness. 😉

It is normal for Managers to depart with their coaching teams - Potter did more than that though. If he’d just left with Bjorn and Billy, it wouldn’t have reflected so badly in him but he also took Ben Roberts and Bruno with him - then came back for Winstanley and promised to come back for 2 of our top players . He took members of staff that had been at the Club far longer than he had and did it in the middle of the season to go to a Club that most people with any savvy would have known would not have suited someone that likes to build a team from the ground up and develop young players - to a Club that has an impatient owner and an even more impatient and entitled fan base. The silly money Chelsea offered made him myopic to what he was getting into.

However, I did not say that he had been rejected by PL Clubs because of how (more specifically when) he left Brighton - I just said he probably hasn’t endeared himself much.

Top flight Football moves on very quickly and the standards are getting higher and higher and the game itself develops - no coach wants to be out of the game for extended periods imo.

A lot of us thought that reason he was not yet signed to another club was because he was holding onto England aspirations - then Carsley was moved up despite Potter being available.

Now he’s taken a pundit job for Sky Sport.

So what then do you think is going on?
