I think it's unlikely Potter would join Palace. Not because of the Brighton link but because his next job is key to his career. If he succeeds then his time at Chelsea will be seen as a blip with mitigating circumstances whereas if he fails his 'brand' will be severely tarnished and it's unlikely he'll ever get a top/big job again.

We know he needs time and patience to get things going and Palace don't give you it - on or off the pitch. They've had 9 full time managers in ten and a half sesons in the premier league. The first hint of a winless run and Parrish gets a twitchy arse and sacks his manager. They also have issues at board level.

Off the pitch Palace fans have become arguably the most deluded and entitled fans in league if not the country. They'll be writing stern letters, making shit banners and trying to fight the team within a few weeks if Potter doesn't hit the ground running.

If we needed a history lesson what the hell is he going to think the Palace fans need?!

The fact that he's ex Brighton as well is just another layer.

I can't see Potter being interested by a move to Palace.
They don't have a transfer budget, get twitchy after a few bad results, and have clear gaps in their squad that need replacing.

Pochettino's under-performance at Chelsea has helped restore Potter's reputation a little.
There were bigger rumours that he is Ten Hag's most likely replacement.

Palace is the sort of job for a manager to rebuild a career after a massive failure.
I don't think Potter needs it as much as they need him. Yet.

Selective memory of Hughton. The dire ultra defensive football was to avoid relegation after trying to play more open and attacking without the players to do it pushed us toward relegation. Also forgets the level of investment Potter got and still had us falling toward the relegation zone until the covid pause.

You have a point about Hughton but without looking it up, if my memory serves me correctly, think it was only two or three league wins in 5 months. That was a great shame. He‘s good bloke and had done a fine job before then but had ran out of ideas. We were awful for half a season and extremely fortunate not to go down.
The football we played under Potter was a big upgrade. Whilst under our league position wasn’t dramatically improved for a while, everybody could see the way we played was far, far better, and with many of the same players - that’s how good his coaching was.

Whilst the facts are the facts in terms of league positions etc….

He completely overhauled our playing style from a defensive outlook, to more of a free-flowing approach, whatever we think, that does take some doing, and RdZ would not have been to continue to improve us without the interim step that Potter provided. Good manager for us, but we now have better…..

I never really warmed to him though, and am still not that bothered.

Well, probably just to see them get beaten! Potter and Östersund did one bad game when they played in the Europa League, just one. At home to Gooners. They then beat them at the Emirates. I guess he like to go to north London, and his kids might support Arsenal. No big deal.

Any coach would have said yes to Chelsh*te at that exact moment when Tuchel had left and Roman were out of the picture. Yes, he brought his staff with him. But they didn’t have to say yes, did they? I love the things and passion RDZ has brought with him. But he has been helped, the table was set by Mr Potter. It took a couple of years but don’t forget that!

And no, I’m not that other Swede. I like beer and a good pizza though.

I like RDZ now much more than I liked Potter when he managed us, but things had never been better at the club when Potter left us. Howls of anguish were understandable.

But we are even better, now, and we don't have to turn a blind eye to tooth sucking and west midlands nasality. We have a manager who sounds like an antihero from a spaghetti western, one who delivers Maserati football.

And....and we will have to rinse and repeat if RDZ is pinched by ManU at the end of the season. Could happen. It is all a measure of our success.

Absolutely this….

Hughton did what was necessary to survive, to say otherwise is just wrong. Of course the football was less enjoyable, but our defensive structure without the ball was excellent and without him, we would not be where we are now.

It gave Potter the time to turn it round, with a solid defensive foundation.

Good point.

Arguably in terms of trophies/achievements a better CV than RDZs. Managing Shaktar is like being Man City in Ukrainian leagues.

From needing a history lesson to European table topping football in less than a season is an achievement Potter can only dream about.
