[Albion] Potter returning vs Murray returning

I don’t know how we stop being a stepping stone team but I thought potter was good for us and would provide some stability as it’s unlikely any other “top team” would have him.

I'm not sure stability is going to be acheived by replacing a manager who some imagine will drop us at the sniff of a big job with one who has already evidenced that he definitely would (and take the entire backroom staff with him in the middle of a season). If he returned to us and then no other 'top team' would have him, that would mean that he'd be doing nothing of note as our manager.

He commented after leaving that he could have stayed with us and had a comfortable time. He'd come with little hunger or ambition. RDZ's level of expectation might make him high maintenance for TB & PB, but it has also stepped up belief in what may be possible. Potter is still a decent coach, but he was clear in telling us all that we should be happy with our lot and not stare at the stars because that wasn't for the likes of us.

Disappointing season .

As ridiculous as it is to say, yes I think it has been disappointing, we haven't played as well as we can and we have missed out on a fair few points.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't change it but to me with a little more luck with injuries and a smart addition to the squad we can improve next season.

Are Albion fans more obsessive about getting old players / coaches back than any other club in the country? I have no idea, but it seems like we might be. There are hundreds of talented young Coaches out there, why would we look backwards rather than forwards?

Particularly when both managerial returns, Mullery and Adams, were absolute disasters and Zamora came back as an injury ridden pastiche (albeit chipping in with valuable goals at times).

Notwithstanding that events have moved on in the last couple of days (record profits, Barber contract, Liverpool cooling interest in Roberto, he giving a far more upbeat press conference) I think the vast majority of fans:

1) Still love Roberto.
2) Don't want Potter back after the Chelsea incident.
3) Always wished Bloom had offered Murray a decent contract rather than push him towards Palace.

Point 3 - I was under the impression that it was Poyet who didn’t want Murray to stay.

I hope our next manager is an outstanding coach who has had his fingers burned during a stint at a "big" clubs and would welcome the stability, support and quality available at our club. I don't know if there is such an individual out there at the moment, but what I do know is that Graham Potter isn't that individual.

Ideally RdZ comes to his senses and stays.

I’m bored of the rdz speculation (won’t sign a contract, effectively offers himself up to other “bigger” clubs) when we know we’re all 100% behind bloom.

He’s playing with potters players in the main. And not playing much past “potterball”.

Murray was seen as scum when he made the move to palace (was even a mention in a song about him).

BUT Murray accepted back with no problems and even an ambassador.

If we take potter back he’ll know his place and be grateful. Excellent manager and won’t want to

Well I would like to think that our club knows a few. I can just imagine Bloom meeting with his teams of analysts with the Starlizard data and asking for the shortlist to replace RDZ and them saying "Shall we just get Graham back?"

In a way I’m saying I don’t want another season like this where the manager is being linked to every top team and we’ve all got that dread feeling. Murray scored goals at every level he played at, including many in the Premier League in a team relying on it's defence.
And yes, I'm seriously suggesting that Potter isn't a Top Manager.
If he was, Chelsea would now be in the Champions League places. He is not at that level. Apart from us, he's managed a pub team in Sweden, a mid level Championship club and made a complete cock up of managing the team of a top level billion pound organisation.
He isn't at that level. Good luck to whoever ends up with him next.

It’s been disappointing compared with last season’s unbelievable effort. The number of injuries to our players throughout have had a huge impact on results and style of football. I sometimes wonder whether this is one of the reasons why RDZ cuts a frustrated figure of late.

The future, should Roberto stay, looks incredibly Bright-on (sorry!). With those on long term injuries returning and our new signings Barco and Osman together with those who have made a great impression already next season could be something special. I really hope it will be.

I'm not saying any of those will be on our shortlist if/when RDZ goes (although Farioli is likely to be of interest i reckon) but there are plenty of decent young coaches out there as that small selection shows.

There is no need to go back to Graham Potter. The second tenures of both Alan Mullery and Micky Adams are enough to prove the phrase never go back.

Because Graham Potter did a decent enough job managing a mid-sized Premier league club from 16th - 9th over 3 seasons. He then failed at a club that Pocchetino is currently failing at, and which Tuchel was sacked from after winning the Champions League. The guy who took over from Potter also had a far worse record than he did in the following months. I don't see how anyone can hold the Chelsea job against him, it's a complete basket case that nobody seems to be able to sort out. I really can't see how anyone can argue that Potter isn't a reasonable mid-table Premier League Manager.

Glen Murray took until he was in his 30's to score a decent amount of goals at Championship level, and then finally hit a 1 in 4 record in the Premier League for a relegation battling club in his mid-30's. He is not a 'top footballer' by any stretch of the imagination. Jao Pedro isn't even a 'top footballer' yet, and he is already vastly superior to Murray and he's only 22. If Murray was anywhere near a 'top footballer', he wouldn't have been playing for us.

But my point is that he may not be in charge for long. He’s looking for a bigger club, I can’t blame him that’s life. I’m looking for a bit of stability and not all the infuriating will he won’t he stay stuff.
