Lovely sentiments, but Potter wasn’t hired to be a community support worker, he was hired to win football games. This isn’t pee-wee football.

If football is not about community the stadiums might as well stay closed.

Also, of course highly subjective as most things football, I dont think the results are far from what they should be. Bottom six squad, bottom six in the league.

I don't often comment on performances these days because I'm no longer sure of my own opinion about Brighton. So it's not really worth sharing.

Same goes for GP. Sometimes I feel he's a brilliant appointment, at least by BHA standards. Other times I'm wondering if it's all a bit of an illusion.

I come away from televised games often confused by what I've just watched, not sure if it was very good, very bad, or something in between.

It all just feels a bit weird right now. Maybe that's the effect of Potterball. Or maybe it's just a symptom of living in strange times more generally. I have no idea. I'm zipping it now.

Hopefully Potter will come good but needs not to worry about upsetting individual players. So many played out of position. Excluding Burn we have 4 outstanding CBs and he just seems to do everything possible to fit them in even if out of position. So he can play 3 he plays 3 at back. This of course means he has to play Veltman as a wing back where he is poor going forward or White in midfield where he has had only one outstanding game against Leeds. Apart from the one that plays centrally others look uncomfortable spending so much time out wide. Even as a winger player has to track back but March as a wingback now seems to spend most of game in fullback role.
I personally think having 3 at back only works when Lampty plays. However to go back to 4 would mean him leaving 1/2 of CBs out and of course we dont have a decent left back
After watching Lalana playing close to our forwards at beginning of season at stand by that to stay up we need to keep him fit

Match day threads, as well as the fallout musings, are a battle ground of arguments the like of which I simply fail to recall… it’s virtually a 40/60 split with certain posters battling away like a lone group of knights defending their king against an absolute onslaught of negativity bombs, missile toting apathy Apaches, and gobshite Goblins from the mountains of abject misery…

For my part; one moment I’m determined he’s our man and the numbers back it up… we’re on the cusp of tangible greatness with such regularity it’s actually almost unbelievable, BUT then again I find myself massively disappointed that our flattery delivers (so often) ‘the great deceit.’ Points are all that matters, or are they? You see… I’m so utterly confused I don’t know what’s going on.

Last night, 0-0 vs a much improved and motivated Fulham - I should be gleeful, yet I feel as flat as our strike rate stats… Why is that? I can’t fathom it.

Anyway, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt in a place where expressing an opinion either way (on nsc) is not a good idea - so I won’t offer my verdict. It’s really struck me though, how little we’re (the faithful – ha!) agreeing on anything much right now. I’m not so sure that’s good for the soul of the club, but maybe I’m being too myopic when attempting to analyse ‘us.’

I guess everything feels a little chaotic, with such large splits right down the middle of our support base… well it’s not making for great reading.

Not sure where this is all going tbh, but then again - I think that mirrors the club and ourselves rather neatly in these difficult days of ours.

Good post - but I think you've called the split wrong; looking at the 'Potter in or out' poll it is very heavily in favour of 'in'.

Is that more or less normal than following a team for 20+ years, hoping they'll lose so that you have something to moan about? You are one of those who are everywhere after a bad or "bad" performance and nowhere to be seen after a win. Speaks volumes.

Don't detract from the fact that you are one seriously smart stoner that gets some stimulus here that you sure as fvrk never got on the Swansea site, nor will get on the Ghana women's site. Hope you stick around, you're occasionally worth reading

You see, I don't think he was hired primarily to win games. I think he was hired to change the entire philosophy of the playing side of things. To avoid expensive buying mistakes, promote youth and ultimately make the playing side of things self supporting. I think Tony is wise enough to realise he can't just keep shovelling money in to buy players who might fail. Much cheaper to promote youth, who still might fail but without the £20mil price tag. Next phase is to start selling the occasional the occasional academy product for £50mil. I think Tony is looking at the end game, and might actually have factored in a relegation whilst trying to avoid it without burning money.

i think he's a very wise man, and I think him and GP might represent the only viable long-term future for this club if we want to stay at the top level in the long term.

He probably isn't that polarising. It's just those with the more extreme views at both ends are more likely to post (the same is true with most issues and what people write on the internet). Personally I think he's doing good enough and can see how with time we could get better.

This. Sorry [MENTION=494]Kosh[/MENTION] old fruit but if you have the misfortune to find a shouty Socialist Worker type having a row in a pub with a lary Fat Gammon then it would be foolhardy to deduce that the entire pub, if not the whole town, is polarized.

I suspect most of us love most of the football but worry a bit about the low rate of conversion of chances into goals.

Agreed, and what I thought and said a month or so ago, none of our business at the end of the day and nothing we can do about it.

Step back, IGNORE and then relax is more realistic.

I think the Club have got what they wanted from his Appointment.

Results won't come with that type of Football without the Standard of players get better.

There is enough in that Squad to play that type of Football AND stay up.

To move to where West Ham Leicester and Everton are this season. You need to start paying for those Standard of players.

Very few players step out of the Swiss 2nd Division and turn a decent side into a very good side. That's not a dig at that particular player. It's just an observation of where the Club seem to be doing their shopping as opposed to the Everton purchase of James Rodriguez.

So far I have always voted IN when it comes to the Potter threads. I don't think he is as innovative as people think. I just think that he does what he has been asked to do. He has been asked to be brave and take chances and he is taking the chances he has been asked to take.

So you can't turn on someone who is fulfilling their " Brief " . However to claim he is some sort of Genius would be naive.
