I am a little concerned that De Zerbi is saying he’s surprised Dunk hasn’t been signed by a big club over his career. Another using us as a stepping stone? Surprised a player has loyalty to his home town club is not a good image.

He’s going to do a Potter on us sooner than later imo
Dunk tried to engineer a move to Fulham ! If a ‘bigger’ club had tried to sign him he wouldn’t have been able to leave quickly enough. You and others have to get used to the idea that players and managers come and go. None of them matter. They aren’t the club. Seems to me that people set themselves up for a fall when this happens. I’m enjoying the anti Potter pantomime but think the seriousness with which some people are taking it is ridiculous.

It's madness that anyone thinks any different. We are talking about elite professionals here who all bar none want to further their careers as much as possible. All clubs outside the top clubs are stepping stones if you have the quality, for players and managers. Dunk hasn't stayed loyal to his home town club as you say - he just hasn't been poached by a top club. (That doesn't make him any less of a club legend, though!)

What part of my post makes you think I’m not used to the idea? Just highlighting that our manager has said that he is surprised our captain doesn’t play for a bigger club and I don’t think that’s a good look. I also think he’ll be gone when a big club comes sniffing regardless of how long he’s been here.

Are you suggesting I should just shut up and not air my views?

It’s a little sad that we are in the top 10, pushing for Europe and are likely to lose our best players and possibly manager within months

It may not matter to you, it does to me, if that’s OK with you

What part of my post suggests I think that ? I am not in the least bit concerned with what you think or how you express it and have not said anything that would imply that. You are a little bit defensive. I was disagreeing with you. Something that people on this thread struggle with it seems. You were one of the biggest Potter cheerleaders and now he is gone you are acting like a spurned lover.
Back to your post. You said you were surprised at De Zerbi’s comment about Dunk and seems it made you think that he is using us as a stepping stone, just like Potter. What I am saying to you is that yes, he is using us as a stepping stone. It’s not a recent revelation and actually there’s nothing wrong with it. That realisation from more fans would prevent a cult forming around a manager and the sense of loss when he leaves.

Good idea. Done.
In no way, shape or form is this just "one post" though, this is the fourth or fifth time in the last months where you try to turn a thread into a "should Swansman be here or not" thread.
I don't get the incessant hate for you from a group of loud posters.

There have been posters worthy of hate on this board in the past. They all seem to have now been banned/moved on. You are not in their hateworthy league or even close to it.

I follow this club with my heart, it would probably be easier if I could be as detached as you appear to be. We are all different, anyway let’s leave it there, you’ve made your point.

Super fan syndrome. Small mindedness empowered by the recent thread aimed directly at Swansman. Needs to stop.

Think you (and others) might be reading too much into it - to me, this was just RDZ saying how Dunk is underrated by many outside of BHA, and that he sees him as one of the best CBs in the league.

But let's also be realistic. I love Dunky as much as anyone, and it's great that he hasn't done a Trossard and done whatever he could to get that big move. But, let's say 4-5 years ago, one of the big 6 had stuck in a 50m offer and put a huge contract in front of him with the attraction of European football. Would he have turned it down out of loyalty to the club? Absolutely not.

So RDZ saying he's surprised that that never happened, isn't really a big deal.

Is this a hangover from the all powerful manager? Years ago we pulled back from talking about a 'head coach' but ultimately that is what we most often have today. Perhaps Chelsea (and us - certainly me) under estimated how much the club set up affected the success of Potter.

By extension maybe Chelsea should be looking at how their set up is affecting Potter's work.
what, by giving him so many proven players to work with? poor Potter having 3 first teams worth of talent. i do recognise there is a challenge to that, however he's faild basics with constant change, going beyond simply keeping players happy.

He refused to play when Fulham wanted him, when we were both in the Championship.

Exactly how I took it. Meant as a compliment.

Sounds like De Zerbi doesn't have a clue about football
I mean, the England manager, our waistcoated wonder no less, doesn't rate Dunky

Or maybe that's the other way around......

"...there will be widespread sadness in the British coaching community when the inevitable happens at Chelsea. It seemed all quiet on the west London front yesterday. The owners are supportive for now. But for how long? Anyone looking coldly at the Potter situation can conclude only that time is running out. The dreadful results, meek performances, dissenting fans, the fortune spent, the strange decisions, the lack of identity . . . the list goes on, but it can’t go on. When Potter arrived Chelsea were champions of the world, now they are the third-best team in west London. "

The club set up is massively important. Since Poyet we have only had one unsuccessful managerial appointment but have any gone on to be more successful after leaving?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if GP announces his resignation on the grounds of intolerable family pressures. A deal will probably be agreed of say £10m for him to walk away with both sides being able to save face. Pure speculation by the way.
I don’t see that happening. All part of being a football manager. Alex Ferguson went through a lot worse and he did all right.
