Top Prem football is far more attractive than the England job surely? GP looks like a man who loves the coaching side of the game and the day to day. Both of these are lacking from England as you only see the players for five days every 2 months.

I'm far more concerned that Ten Haag gets the bullet and Utd come calling.

Every chance Southgate leaves after the WC, whatever happens. And then the Euros qualifiers start in February, so they'll want a manager in straight away. If the job was vacant in the summer, then he'd go. Half way through a season? I hope not. But if its offered, hard to turn down. I think they'll try very hard to convince Gareth to stay at least for six months so they can do a summer recruitment, or even put a caretaker in place. But if its free and offered, a big decision for GP to make.

So will it be offered? Hard to think they'd go for someone without top club / CL experience, and/or an international playing career. But if they want an Englishman , who does that leave? Howe is similar to Potter in terms of his career trajectory, but hasn't been long at Newcastle, perhaps easier for him to say no to the offer. Dyche similar, and he's available. Lampard and Gerrard could each be out of a job then and would surely be on the shortlist, I would perhaps make them favourites if they were out of a job at that time. But there could easily be public momentum behind Potter. A concern, no doubt.

Personally i don`t think the England job would suit Potter, he wouldn`t get the same day to day opportunities of developing players which he clearly thrives on.

Well the added issue is that if Smug Eddie gets the England job then who exactly will Newcastle be linked with ? ??? Lol.

Que Sera Sera.

We can't stop Potter being flavour of the month and he'll look for a new challenge at some point.

I suspect he'll pretty much see out his contracted 6 years at bhafc. We'll see.

An England manager would have to deliver instant results or be crucified by the media. Remember that Brighton were finishing around 16th for a couple of years until his methods bore success. TB was patient and believed in him. Would the FA do that?

Agreed.

Looks like Southgate will remain loyal to Big Six out of form players like Sterling & Slabhead, England will perform awfully and he’ll get the sack.

It has to be Eddie Howe for England manager.

can see a scenario where Southgate leaves after the World Cup, a caretaker is put in place for the remainder of the season, and the next guy takes over in the summer.

I can't see anyone other than Potter and Howe being on the shortlist. The media like both of them and I imagine the FA do as well.

Would Potter turn it down? I'm not convinced any manager would actively turn down the England job, particularly with the amount of talent available right now- has anyone actually turned that job down before?!

Sadly it could well be the last season of Potter- if not England then another PL club

All the time we're doing well people will be after our players and staff. All the time we're not doing well many will be wondering why some of the staff were hired. Exactly why manager / first team coach in the Premier League has such a short shelf life.

Potter would be a great England coach. He'd be better than Southgate now. As others have said, whether he'd want that or the day to day involvement club football gives you, no one knows, but as England coach he'd get to stay down here, wife and kids settled, still a local celeb etc.

I think Southgate will go no matter what at the end of the World Cup. If he's replaced by Potter then we'll get a shitload of cash and get in the next name on the list. I'm not sure the FA will pay a shitload of cash though. That big contract is already looking insightful and, who knows, we may even improve it.

Yep - and I don't think he would suit the job. Our success comes from every player knowing their exact required position in any scenario. That is months of training that he just wouldn't get. And good luck telling players on hundreds of thousands a week to play in a completely different style from their club sides. He is a manage that seems to thrive on time and a squad full of good eggs. Not something you associate with International management

I wonder if he'd implement Albion's "no dickheads" policy if he got the England job, it will limit the players he can pick

My neighbour's Pilates teacher said Potter's been lined up for England manager.

I can do better than that, I have a mate who is a Brighton season ticket holder and he tells me he's shitehouse

I don't mind really if Potter leaves for England or the Big 6 or Newcastle ( Big 7 to be ).

If he leaves for a "so-called Big Club" like Leicester, Wolves, Villa or Everton etc. I'll be fuming.

I suppose it would be an honour to be offered the job and perhaps hard to turn down. But does it sound like a job he would enjoy ? He seems to thrive on working with players, improving them, and using very flexible tactics. With the England job he would get a bunch of prima donnas who might be hard to improve or to mould into flexible formations, especially with limited time to work with them. He is all about getting the right ethos which arguably many of the best English players don't subscribe to.

GP is on record as enjoying the day to day work on the training pitch which he won’t have as England manager. I think that and that alone would put him off the job. He’d die of boredom.
