I must say that all the 'big characters' in the changing room have respectively now gone, leaving a team full of confident, talented and young players who will have a chance to bloom (no pun intended).
I can guess that some of the latter might have been overwhelmed by the bigger characters, in more ways than one.
Potter is instilling an area of calm and equal atmosphere, where no one player is better than the other.
Will be interesting when Andone returns

I never quite kept up with the drinking culture discussions. And there was an issue with laughing gas whilst on tour a while back. Are any of those players still at the club?

Ali J and Groß if I recall correctly but if you/anyone are/is insinuating the instigators were drummed our because of this then I think that’s misplaced info.

If anything having a squad of younger players flush with disposable income is riskier than seasoned pros who should know better.

Not suggesting that for a second. But I recall Duffy and Stephens were mentioned in relation to a certain lads culture. Not having them in the changing room could leave space for some players to blossom.

2 little tweaks Ive noticed he has made which have made a huge difference, Pressing and Recovery of 2nd balls.

When the opposition plays the ball into midfield we now press with 3 men, surrounding the player with excellent results.

Also, when the ball is played to one of our players under pressure in the midfield, we no longer try to shield the ball only to lose possession.

We now try to lay the ball off backwards to a supporting teammate. Ive seen us do this multiple times leading to good attacking actions. It must be something Potter has been coaching and is working well.

Agreed - that was clear with the pressing when Solly won the ball which eventually led to the penalty.
The pressing has been much better, but also the close control in tight situations. We seem much more adept at this style now, and the ability to retain/recycle possession is much improved.

Yes good point. Under CH (who I love), backpasses were to keep the ball and be safe. Under GP they are to keep it to then get forward as quickly as possible. Can see when he arrived, drumming in to 'pass it forwards' so players so players wouldn't want to play it back.

Similar initial actions but with totally different purposes.

Potter is a very competent tactician and great coach. Watching us vs United on Saturday, you could see how much work the team do on positioning out of possession. The forwards do a great job of both pressing and cutting off passing lanes. So many times United put themselves under pressure due to our positioning - ultimately this led to the Lamptey penalty. It's also clearer that we're much better in possession; we make better decisions and more confident running with the ball to beat the press; Alzate, Biss and Lalana all do this very well.
Also, the in game changes make a difference. Potter overloaded the right hand side later in the game against United, which gave March a number of opportunities which led to the equaliser.

A few things to continue to work on.
1. Defensive transitions. Although these are becoming fewer as the quality of ball retention and decision making improves, we get hurt a lot by them.
2. Finishing.
3. Game Management - conceding after scoring/winding down the clock etc.

CH effectively played Solly as a LWB directly in front of a LB. He's be a natural at LWB for years.

One of the more worrying variables that can't be ignored is his better performances coming with no fans in the stadium. He is a confidence player for sure...hopefully during this season and a half he will find a level of confidence that won't be effected when the boo boys return.

Not quite sure where you sit in the Amex but i have never heard Solly being booed.

Clearly there has been some level of frustration because the local lad, who we all wanted to see realise his potential, wasn't putting in consistent performances. That may have been down to Hughton when you look at how he has been totally transformed under Potter.

So let's give Potter and his team all the credit for helping March significantly improve; Solly is a totally different player now, and knock the nonsense about the "boo boys" on the head. It's never happened and it never would.

Playing 3 at the back gives us that extra man in midfield and it has transformed our effectiveness.

Those who 'get' football know that pressing and other 'tactics' didn't exist until Bielsa invented them.

Yeah, but maybe for a reason. The modern game demands it, because others (LFC/Klopp as one example) have led the way in showing how important it is. Show me a winning, top level side that doesn't employ an effective pressing game.

Wonder what Tony was thinking when he gave Potter another two years on his four year contract after just a couple of months? People of which I am one have been banging on about us actually having a plan and what we might be seeing is the deployment of said plan. Young very good progressive coach? Tick. Top class DOF? Tick Top class recruitment and statistical analysis team? Tick Actual strategy for signings rather than knee jerk reaction? Tick Buying young players to try and get ahead of the curve? Tick.

We are evolving into Leverkensen/Ajax/Lyon type club as per the management plan. Will we have setbacks? No doubt but this is just the beginning I think. Potter seems to be exactly what such a strategy needs a coach who makes players better and who is not afraid to blood youngsters. We in the moneyball stage I guess so some of these lads will go for top dollar but as long as the back of house team stays at the level it is that will not adversely affect the process.

If we can get to the sort of level those european clubs are that is probably the best we can ever hope for but I'd settle for regular european football with the odd cup thrown in
