[Brighton] Potholes

The country lane on which my work is on, every time there's heavy rain it washes away the papier mache the council used to fill it last time.
It's early hours and dark when I drive to work so now I have to try and figure out where all the holes are appearing again so I don't ruin my car by driving into a crevasse.

One of our many national embarrassments. (I bet Rwanda has lovely smooth roads)

In the unlikely event of a small cold snap I'm pretty sure all the tarmac in my village roads and on my commute will lift straight off the base layer.

Last month a contractor has laid a fibre cable the entire length of the road snaking through the village.
In doing so they've tarmaced over their trench, so now there is literally - and I literally mean literally - a foot wide smooth corridor of road next to and in some cases even going through potholes the residents of Ukraine would be saying 'come on now'.

It's a good job the police don't patrol the top of Queen's Park. Firstly they would probably lose a few cars to the pot holes never to be seen again, and secondly I would get pulled over for erratic driving trying to negotiate the chasms appearing on West and North Drive. Those holes could do serious damage to a car. It's getting silly now.

Van went in for a service today, 2 tyres had 'small splits' in them so we recommend they are changed. I expect that was one of the occasions when it was either hit an oncoming vehicle or close my eyes and hope for the best.

Well obviously it's your fault as you didn't spot it and drive round it. If you want Personal responsibility you have to deal with it's consequences

I'm not having a pop at you, just pointing out how ridiculous this situation is where we've somehow managed to get ourselves into a situation where common sense no longer applies

That's not being fair. Folk have a lot to concentrate on when they are driving. The other week I went over a giant pothole on Bear Road. Crunch. I was certainly paying attention to my driving.

Sorry, of course I agree with you, I was trying to be ironic, but couldn't find the emoji

The arse end of Hangleton
Just got back from Nairobi. I am never going to complain about potholes ever again! 🤣
Recently got back from Costa Rica and the tour guide when we went to the rain forest actually said "We're a third world country so you're unlikely to find roads like this at home". Nineteen Brits on the "coach" - each and everyone said "No, yours are better".

Last week had workmen fill in a hole on our road. Mrs WS happened to pull up while they were doing it and said "At last, all these holes will be gone". We live in a road of 27 houses and the road had about 20 odd big holes - the biggest being three yards from the one they were repairing. The contractors replied "Sorry, the council have only told us to fix this one. We're only allowed to fix the holes we're told to.". I don't blame the contractors at all - BUT how fvcking stupid do council officers and councillors need to be to get their jobs ? How do they not understand - contractor in road - fix all holes ????????????????????? - it will save LOADS of money. Really, many public servants are such a waste of money. Don't even get me started on the pricks at DWP !!!!!!!

The roads are really showing this country up to the world. There is a lot of UK motorcycle bloggers on YouTube and the state of the roads in all their videos in every part of the uk is piss poor. I would never ride my bike in the dark it just too dangerous. What really annoys me I have to get my bike MOT to make sure it’s safe and road worthy, but the roads with pot holes, gravel, mud drop my tractors are not.

Like the never ending rail strikes it's just become one more thing that the long suffering public has to put up with from this clueless government.

It won't change until this government is sent packing because they know they can simply get away with it as they have for 14 years

Genuine question, are labour pledging Billions to fix the pot holes then?
