The right (particularly the OP) throwing about a lot of assumptions, too.

For starter's unless I have missed some reporting about this case, nowhere has a motive been proven, or even explicitly suggested. The report details how the victim was attacked whilst erecting the poster - not that he was necessarily attacked BECAUSE he was erecting the poster. The latter seems likely, of course, but it would be better to know more, before starting an internet crusade bemoaning the hateful left.

The attacker might know the victim personally, and have any manner of grievance, entirely unconnected to politics for all we yet know.

Or if the crime were indeed politically motivated, why the assumption the attacker is not an angry (further)-right supporter?
The motive has been suggested as political, by the comments from Leila Williams, and also her Labour counterpart.
But we don't know if they know any more than anyone else.
Could be the guy was hoping to be the Tory candidate himself, could be he thought the poster was going up on his land or any number of non political issues.

And if you took the content of my reply to in any way condone the violence, then I don't think its worth continuing any attempt at meaningful discussion.
Well your a feisty one.

These are the assumptions you appeared to be saying.

Hey I am just suggesting that people don't batter volunteers. Well I hope the victim is better soon and the 63 Year old goes litter picking down the A27 for a month.

That's a familiar style of posting isn't it. Less typos etc, but.........

There are literally no assumptions in my post you've quoted - only questions and counter-points to assumptions.

Try again.

So, no assumptions in your post then?

I didn't see the BBC reporting that the lefties were responsible for this?
Okay, the BBC wouldn't say anything. I banged an assumption in there but who wouldn't when he was in the motion of clearly supporting a party and a man attacks him?
If I see the milko come out of my house when I get home, doing his trousers up and licking his lips...............I think I would have some assumptions!

Finally, if you’re of the bent that “well they deserve it for being Tory” I ask you this - if you were assaulted on the street for displaying your reasonable if unpopular political views which you are entitled to in a democracy - whatever they may be - how would you feel?

Sorry but this has really pissed me off as a free speech advocate. THAT isn’t democracy.
I've been following both Leila Williams (long standing local person) and young Tom (who will move here if he wins apparently - which he will) on social media since they were announced as candidates to see what they had to say, so I was aware of the attack shortly after it happened. Leila then said that they had taken the decision not to put any more posters or boards up as the risk was considered too high. I'm aware of previous issues locally during other elections - although didn't end up as bad as this attack (it was the boards etc that were attacked as opposed to the person putting them up).

Tom has rightly come out and condemned the attack - as any decent Labour supporter would (and any other right minded person). As you suggested in your other post, this will almost certainly have come from someone on the left... someone who would have been singing "oh Jeremy Corbyn" during the last two elections. Our last candidate - Lavinia O'Connor was of that ilk and I just couldn't vote for her. She lives down the road from me and I see her now and again.

Tom has assured me he's centre left and he seems a decent chap - so he will get my vote tomorrow. I hope he'll then move full time to the area and be very visible getting to know the locals and the issues on peoples minds.

From what I've read, it does seem as though the attack was related to the fact a local Conservative councillor was putting up a vote Conservative poster - possibly from what was said by the attacker. Quote below from Leila Williams...

What evidence is there to suggest it was anyone on the left? Have I missed some of the reporting here (not been following it tbh) I have been an active member of the Labour Party for decades even when it was ‘Old Labour’ post Michael Foot under Neil Kinnock and I am assured that the idea of using physical violence to attack Tory Councillors would be an anathema to everyone in the Labour Party I’ve ever come across. I never heard of any Party member/ or Labour activist doing anything like physically assault people for their political beliefs - in fact it was the sort of behaviour we’d come to associate with BNP supporters and the NF.

But no proof it was “certainly” from the left and a Corbyn supporter?

On the eve of a General Election, do we need to be maligning the Labour Party with unfounded rumours?

Nice story, with plenty of open honesty in it, you can have my vote.👍
I will keep doing my research into my candidates right up to the last minute, one thing I have ruled out is voting for any bungee jumping party leaders. Can you imagine it!

Nice. Think of the victim it's hardly a laughing matter, do you usually laugh at personally injury?
No. Obviously beating someone up is not banter. What is also obvious, is my reply specifically in response to your, highlighted, sentence about "defaced and smashed" boards.

Well that's okay then. Okay I didn't notice that, I don't get what your saying but I will take your word for it.

There's a recent history of some very left wing Labour councillors and members locally (during Corbyn's time). During the previous two elections I was aware of intimidatory behaviour from some of those individuals that loved having photos taken with Chris Williamson against those that would now be supporters of Keir Starmer. This resulted in some Labour councillors resigning. So it's not been a bed of roses in the Labour Party locally.

David Gilmour's armpit
A bizarre thread with no actual information as to the specific person responsible, by a rather bizarre 'poster'.
Not that that can mean anything, obviously, as it would be wrong to jump to conclusions.

I jumped to some rather sweeping conclusions when I first opened the thread.

About the OP, not the actual incident, you understand. :lolol:
