I think there will be a few humble pies being eaten at the moment.

Having missed all of it because my TV is still in shipping I can't tell if it was a success or not, but given the feedback I shall admit I should probably have a slice or two as well.

I wasn't thinking personally, I don't think many of us could have foreseen such a success.

I'd love to see some of the people who 'form our opinions' looking like twunks.

With the amount of money they threw at it, it was always going to be a success. I know they say it came in 'on budget' but wasn't that only after they increased the budget a few times?

There were plenty of Olympic DOOM threads on here, I seem to recall.

Personally, I was very much on the "can't wait for it to start" side of things.

Can anyone advise me if they were accosted by balaclava-sporting Special Forces on the Tube, as predicted by this Guardian writer in January? Was the transport reduced to a "gibbering wreck"?

2012 Olympics: Kabul. Baghdad. London. Three to avoid this summer | Simon Jenkins | Comment is free | The Guardian

I had to wait TWELVE minutes for a train back to Clapham Junction after going to Wembley, absolute disgrace. Just to add insult to injury I then had a 30 SECOND wait for a train back to Brighton and had to stand ALL THE WAY to East Croydon.

I'd write to your MP if I was you. Scenes like that just can't be allowed to continue.

Well I had to go to the Olypmic stadium a week last Saturday and ONLY say three GB GOLD medals. This must not happen in future we are meant to be shit and I can't stand this winning mentality. I for one want my money back and the fantastic memory wiped from my brain cells. Probably the easiest way to forget winning is to get a buy one get one free season ticket at the theatre of laughs otherwise known as Smellhurst

Lets just wait 6-9 months to see if they are still the same number of fat shits at the supermarket and kids are back to playing with their ipods and playstations rather than doing sport and don't put the blame on lack of finance, there are plenty of sports clubs around if you WANT to play anything and there would have been a damn sight more if the olympic money had gone on facilities for the whole country rather than a two week media fest.
Real Pro sport works because it's self supporting, making amateur athletes into full time professional, just to win medals, is bollocks.

Not Luton! Thank God

They increased the budget from the bag of a fag packet £2.4 pre bid to the £9.3bn in 2007. Hasn't changed from there, despite lots saying that it would end up costing £15bn. Big old increase mind, but can't think the extra cost can just be overspend. The £2.4bn budget must have missed out lots of things.

Did you go to the football in the end?

Did you also have to suffer with annoyingly efficient transport to and from the Olympic Park?

I missed the Olympic Park on my one excursion to the games, but it did allow me to enjoy the Millennium's farcical flop. Whether you still call it the Millennium Dome, O2 or North Greenwich Arena it is still a hugely impressive venue. We arrived by cable car and left by river boat, I hope this hideous flop is still going strong for years to come.

John Lydon, April 2012:

"You cannot co-opt us into this s**tstem. There's a lot of unemployment, and I'm seeing money wasted on people running and splish-splashing about and throwing things. We cannot afford that. It's going to leave an incredible debt; as soon as it's ended, the prices and the taxes are all going to go up.

"Can you see a British person winning anything at all? Someone called Trish from Basingstoke will come in 12th, and that will be the highlight."

Have you asked for a refund? Shocking lack of effort from Team GB.

Bloody right it was efficient. This can't be allowed to happen or get out into the open. TFL even had the gaul to provide seats for my wife and two children so they didn't have to stand all the way back to Waterloo and this after the Saturday night session when we should have been expecting and where hoping for transport meltdown.

The whole thing was absolutely superb, from start to finish, and far surpassed any footballing equivalent (Euros, World Cup etc) that I have ever, ever seen. I've never been so contempt to sit and watch tele all day, and seems I wasn't alone. Every single person at work was talking about it, all of our customers were talking about it, the same customers who were worried about all the problems and glitches we expected (none of which happened).

The transport was superb, the security queues were far quicker than any of which i've been through at an airport even though using the same equipment, and staff were SO, SO friendly. I went up to Esher for the Time trial, and didn't wait for a train either direction, exactly the same thing coming home last week when I went to the Athletics and Hockey, even got a seat on the tube both ways.

In fact, the only thing i could possibly find to complain about? £4.30 for a bottle of Heineken, and the last train from London Bridge being 23.12hrs.
