The spend reported by VISA is only around 5% of what this country spent putting the Olympics on.

and is a lot less impresive when you look at their report and read the next line: International spend on Visa cards is up 8.0% year-on-year and 2.6% week-on-week. so the olypmics added £36.8 million. hmmm.

A lot of different cost figures on here:

"The Games came in at a revised budget of £10 billion, although the Centre for Economics and Business Research also said that people who stayed at home or took holidays during the Olympics cost the economy £1bn — taking the total cost of the Games to £11bn"

That was of costing things makes you wonder why we have weekends. People not working must cost the government billions! Alternatively you could judge how much something costs by the amount of money spent on it.....

This!

Did we give more holidays to people then? Did my company give me an extra 10 days? What about the people who still do the same job just in a more condensed time?

Big Sam's at it again, but even funnier is the first comment after the Telegraph article......... if only they'd tried watching football at Withdean. Even with it's roof the Olympic stadium hardly provides accomodation suited to the depths of an English winter.

London 2012 Olympics: stadium could become 'white elephant', says Sam Allardyce.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has warned London's Olympic Stadium could become a "white elephant" if his side are not allowed to relocate there.

The Stratford venue has been the centre of a glorious fortnight of sport, culminating in Sunday night's spectacular closing ceremony.

But its future has long been the subject of debate, with the Hammers initially denied tenancy last October following a legal dispute involving Tottenham and Leyton Orient.

The need to preserve a home for athletics at the stadium was central to London 2012's legacy aims, but Allardyce insists the stadium and surrounding park will fall into decline without the regular use provided by Premier League football.

He told the Times: "If they keep it for athletics, the only time it will ever get a big crowd again after the Olympics is when they hold the World Championships there in five years' time.

"You only have to look around the world at some of the Olympic Stadiums that have been built. They're white elephants now. There are weeds growing there. Look at the Bird's Nest in Beijing. Look at Athens.

"The Olympic Park is a fantastic place, but it can't be left to rack and ruin. If a club with the history and fanbase and potential of West Ham don't go there, the concern would be that the park is left empty the vast majority of the time.

"I can understand some West Ham fans feeling that they don't want to leave the history and tradition of Upton Park, but it's an incredible opportunity for the club to move forward."

So why is it so unsuitable for football as I constantly hear, with no explanation? After all those millions being spent, it should continue to be used. Surely local sports clubs could have access with a small fee during the week and days no football is being played. Why didnt Tottenham want it? Who is Leyton Orient?
