Top post!

I see what you did there

I can't really see much cause for complaint, personally I don't much care if my post arrives at 1pm or 9am. And inevitably with millions of items being posted, the odd one will go missing or to the wrong place. Show me a business where no mistakes are made?

More and more these days, there seems to be an expectation of perfection in all the services we receive, be it post, utilities, banks, the police, healthcare etc. As long as there are humans involved, things will go wrong occasionally. Such is life. What do we do, sue them all?

Thank you, my point. Postmen and Women have to do their jobs in all weathers for a pittance. Frankly, like a lot of other people who don't get paid for what they're really worth they should be thanked and not abused.

I don't think they HAVE to do it!. I'm sure that no-one is compelling them to be a postman or a post-woman.

You lived there or just visited, huge difference. Ivory Coast Postal system ? What are you on ? Italy sucks too and the French postal system is a joke. Australia ? I have a very close relative who lived in Aus for 16 years and he has commented on how good our post is.

It's always the same, people slag off our Government, Public Transport, Post, Health system and yet they usually have no idea how much better it is than elsewhere. The UK has it's faults but it has a lot more going for it than just about anywhere else.

Actually, the Ivory Coast's postal service was very efficient (financed by the French!) when I was there. Mind you that was in 1992 before they thought a civil war was a good way to sort out some problems.

and here's evidence of the qulaity service we are now experiencing....

Service Information for customers Service Summary for customers – Thursday 24th September

In Glasgow and London, where industrial action by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has affected mail services during the past few days we’re now working to restore normal mail services. Yesterday industrial action took place in most parts of London which meant limited deliveries in all areas of London (E, W, WC, N, NW, SE, SW) except for the EC postal district where deliveries took place. Collections were also limited in all areas apart from those in SW and EC London where collections still took place as usual. Special Delivery™ and Royal Mail Tracked™ items were delivered in all areas by Royal Mail Managers.

Deliveries and collections will take place today, Thursday 24th September althoughdelivery and business collection times may be subject to some variation. Whilst we’re doing all we can to keep mail moving normally there are delays to mail in London and Glasgow.

Today there is industrial action taking place in Edinburgh Mail Centre, which will affect the processing, and collection of mail in and around Edinburgh. Mail deliveries will still take place today, Thursday 24th September. Industrial action planned to take place in Glasgow Mail Centre on Friday has been withdrawn by the CWU.

There is also industrial action planned on Saturday in some delivery offices who deliver mail in parts of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath. More information for customers is available on the Scottish regional pages (links below).

On Monday there is industrial action planned in parts of South West England, Newport (NP) and in parts of the CV and NG and ST postcode areas. Please click on the relevant regional link below for more information about how this industrial action will affect mail services.

Despite my earlier, er, post, I shall reserve judgement, as I am awaiting a letter sent to me Special Delivery today.

If it does not arrive tomorrow, I will be back on here, slating the Royal Mail :lolol:

Descenting voice from within, who in fairness doesn't trust management, or the union.

And leaving my "job for life" at Royal Mail and going into the real world was a right eye opener that the unions want to think about before they threaten to go on strike.

I feel this strike action proves how far removed from reality the union is.
People in my office are working 2 jobs (like many others) due to recession induced shortfalls, from their spouses.
The Union has nannyed and protected so many 'lifers' for so long, the company has stagnant, and at least 10% of my workmates couldn't make it, 'in the real world'.
RM ought to apply for some kind of MENCAP charitable status

Thank you, my point. Postmen and Women have to do their jobs in all weathers for a pittance. Frankly, like a lot of other people who don't get paid for what they're really worth they should be thanked and not abused.

Thanks to the Union, for what we do, we are handsomely rewarded.
It won't be long before we are replaced by trained chimps, (although looking around the office, I think the process has already started).
We currently aren't on strike, as our rep is talking to our manager, and when the strike is national, it will be over many points agreed by us, already.
These local talks have resulted in MY job being negiotated away, in Jan.
After this I spoke to the rep, and thanked him for talking, as like 2 years ago nothing will be a accomplished, through striking. (I did strike then).

I love being a postie, I enjoy working indoors and the having the freedom, out and about.
We are well repected on the street, I hope come Jan, something is 'found' for me, as I've never had an easier and more enjoyable job.
It's just a shame management and the union seem hell bent on destroying each other, bringing us down in the process.

Now that is a fantasic service.
4 quid-ish for absolute cast iron next day delivery, or £2,500 compo.
If I were you, I'd be praying it doesn't come.

The problem is that the long service employees (20 years + in the job) have been insulated from the real world and are basically institutionalised. It will be a massive struggle for some of them if their job position is made redundant. I found personally , that potential employers see it as a negative working for one company for such a long time and prefer a candidate who has moved from company to company every 2 to 3 years.

A lot of talk, in our office, has always begun 'in the good old days'.
Even though, just by knowing these people you can tell, 'in the good old days', they were moaning their arses off, then too.

No sign of you Edna, so I assume it was another good job done by RM.

Does that mean that they have to endure poor service and facilities, not that this is such.

Yes, they're miserable bastards as well. The best thing about the A23 is that it bypasses the place.
