[Albion] Positives from Today

I said a while ago thought be Norwich, West Ham and us. You’re not really paying attention to my previous posts about needing 12 draws if we cannot win games. At this level we rarely get 2 goals and when we do we also seem to have a nightmare in defence too despite solid performances previously. Guess I’m looking at things a bit more scientifically than that old chestnut called blind optimism. Maybe get real? FFS!

Positives today ? .... We defended better, fought back from a goal down...showed more guts and character than of late, bar West Ham.. we scored .

By itself, today was a good result. Its just we need tbe points of a win.. but don't worry, it will come

Special mention for Schelotto playing the pantomime villain winding up the home support ... the walk back to the dugout after being substituted was epic

Schelotto was my MOTM. He had a really good game and covered so much ground. When we were going forward, he was glued to that right touchline, ready for Mooy to put it wide to him. He was also very good at chasing back once we lost possession (which happened a lot.........)

Ok, let me explain Swansey. The thing with opinions is this. Everyone can have one. But it doesn’t mean they’re worth listening to. For that, you need credibility. Chris Waddle has credibility. He’s an experienced pundit, played at the highest level, followed football for over 50 years etc. By comparison, well, you don’t. Not yet. But keep posting and if you change your preference in birds that would help too. All this we, us and our seems phoney when your allegiance is in South Wales. It’s like you were migrating to Africa for the winter and got blown off course and landed here. A lesser spotted swan in a flock of seagulls.

Before the game Waddle was saying when Brighton go behind they seem to just shrug their shoulders accept defeat and move onto the next week. Which was clearly wrong given recent results (Chelsea, Watford and particularly West Ham) and the fact that we had already equalled last seasons total for points from when losing. Not just a different opinion but factually totally wrong. So clearly he hadn’t prepared properly to give that view. So he has no credibility in my eyes.

It’s not wrong. It’s fact! He wouldn’t be a pundit otherwise. He has creditability regardless of what you think, largely because of his career in the game. That’s why he’s in the job. And many others aren’t.

I dont agree. I listen to opinions based on whether they are supported with great arguments, not based on the status of the person expressing the opinion.

That’s a leap. Sheffield to Stalin I mean. anyway, truth for most of us is we seek the arguments that confirm our own perspective. Not because they’re ‘great’.

He really is totally unimpressed with our football.

Presumably he is big mates with Chris Hughton. That probably explains it.

And i agree with him. The football is getting worse with every week. No real pattern to our game. We are not a nice side to watch. No idea why that has changed because some of the football in the earlier part of the season was wonderful at times despite some woeful defending.

In an interview on 5live at about 5.45 today, he was very clear that we’re no better than the company of Norwich, West Ham and Villa. In fact he said those have something (positive) about them that we lack. We deserve to be in the mix and will be until the end of the season.

He really is totally unimpressed with our football.

It’s not giving up, it’s simply acknowledging what is more likely. Evidence based reasoning if you like. Sure, they’ll be entertainment along the way. But come end of the season I’m fairly certain we’ll be down based on what I’ve seen this year and knowing what’s to come. Had we beaten just one of our relegation rivals in those four key matches then be cause for optimism. But we didn’t, not even close, so think City, Liverpool and maybe even Palace might be a bit of a stretch. That’s all. 3 teams have to go down each season. Typically it’s the worst, occasionally a desperately unlucky side does too. But we’re not that. We’ve stunk the PL out during our three seasons largely. I don’t think we’ve peppered anyone’s goal and come away saying damn, we should have stuffed em today/ How we lost that I don’t know...We’re just a bit rubbish, mere millionaires compared to the billionaires. No disgrace in that. It’s what statisticians call probability.

But then, the sound of tangoing bagpipes stirred in the distance. Cometh the hour, cometh the man? Nah, let’s keep him on the sub bench...

I didn’t appointment him, so no it’s not my opinion he has credibility. Perhaps for the simple out there you have to add the word ‘more’ in front for them to understand why an ex pro at the highest level plus 20 years punditry might be more worth listening to above ‘twitter man’ but even then I think perhaps not. Twitter or troll, we live in an age where people prefer to entrench not enlighten their views. As you’re demonstrating, so thank you.

It has changed because Ashworth and Potter clearly made a mid season decision to prioritise points over style. Quite right. Potterball will return in August or once we are safe this season.

Did we? Did we make both keepers save shot after shot? That’s what I meant by peppering. I don’t recall us doing that and therefore don’t get your post at all. I recall we did play very well, very entertaining and felt we could have won on possession and general play (less so against Villa, because we mostly played with ten men). But we didn’t. Same frustrating theme running through several successive games at the time.

Waddle gave the distinct impression that he’d like to see us drop, as if we’re the anathema of a Pulis type team.

Waddle is a bit worried about Newcastle I think, and is searching for reasons to convince himself Newcastle can stay up.

We’re on a knife edge. I believe we’ll fall the wrong way. Thirteen games without a win. All very well saying today’s was a great point. And it was. Trouble is the context is “if you win at home....” But we don’t. And I just can’t see us drawing another 12 games to stay up - cause we certainly ain’t winning, so if draws is where the points are only going to come from...
