I also think we can beat them, but not by five goals. A win would be great, but I'm under no illusion that we'll go through to the next round.
Seriously, can anyone really see us scoring five against Roma?
Tbh, no. But... if we score 4, I think that means everyone will get back really late! ;) I didn't think we'd get through the group let alone top it. Who knows, but I'll be there wearing a very badly fitting, allegedly 'limited' edition Europa League shirt. Singing the wrong words (annoyingly I've learnt all the words to the Super Rob De Zerbi chant & it probably won't be sung!). But feeling immensely proud of how well we have actually done. It was only in 2019 that I took my Jnr's to an FA Cup semi, saying it would probably be a 'once in a lifetime' thing. I didn't know anything about the Europa League until the end of last season! :ascarf:

The positive to me is that the team slogged their guts out for the manager and the fans. And made no clear errors except for Moder’s let off.

None of our players were particularly amazing but none were poor - a supreme collective performance against a team that might have to worry about the bottom 3.

I thought Lallana oozed class in his cameo and I’d like to see him start games to calm our play down, even if he has to be replaced by someone like Moder or Baleba at half time
We were talking even after 20 mins about how the team couldn’t be faulted for effort and that continued right till the end. **** knows how after playing Thursday and getting back after 2am Friday. I was still knackered this afternoon and all I did was eat pizza and drink beer.

Massive credit to RdeZ and the whole lot of them for getting over the line today. Look what happened to Villa.

I’d just love us to go 2 up early on just to see what happens. I know it’s the hope that kills you but………

Better xg

Bart's 2 saves were pretty good.

They probably deserved a point
I thought we were good for the half time lead, but wouldn't have any complaints if they'd managed to get something in the second half.

First half we dominated possession, largely played the game in their half, but struggled to get past their parked bus of a defence. A deserved bit of fortune with the own goal gave is the lead.

Second half was largely the opposite, without an own goal. They played a lot in our half, instead of a parked bus of a defence, they had to contend with their own poor final balls - shots off target or largely straight into the stomach of Verbruggen.

I think perhaps we had a touch more of the second half than they had of the first, but if they'd got one back I wouldn't feel like it was an injustice.

Only need 4 then penalties

Going in 2 up at half time could be Wednesday level MASSIVE

I said a similar thing to my Jnr on Fri that teams have made immense comebacks. His reply was 'who and when'? I think I said Sheffield vs Feyenoord as I couldn't remember what had been posted here. I then made a rapid exit from his room saying 'I'll check on NSC, but it's definitely happened'. :lolol:

Lots, not least good game management to see out and protect the result with a rare clean sheet. Veltman had an excellent game, we look more solid with him in the side, Baleba deserved MOM, Fergie put in a real good shift and Tariq Lamptey and Lallana were brilliant when they came on.

No, because if we get two, they will play act if there is a strong breeze.

Correction: they will play act.

They were doing that at 4-0, so God help us if we manage to reduce the deficit in any way.

I agree. They must have put an awful lot of effort in on Thursday, both physically and emotionally, and then had the disappointment of the result, which was worse than they really deserved. I got home from Italy about 8pm last night was in bed by 11pm and I was still knackered for today's game (though unlike the players- I hope- I perhaps spent more time drinking Aperol Spritzes than training). They're not getting much of a break, they were facing annoyingly gritty opponents who had nothing to lose by coming here and giving it a go, and yet somehow they ground out a win and a clean sheet.

I bet Roberto was absolutely delighted with them, and never mind the quality of the performance. Sometimes the result is the only thing that counts, and today was one of those days. I'm quite proud of their efforts too.

I have no idea! :lolol: There were just a few posts after the game that mentioned amazing come backs. Sheffield and Feyenoord stuck in my head and I legged it before he had the chance to say 'what on earth are you talking about'! He knows I have no idea about any other team apart from Brighton & let the fact that I'd said Sheffield beat Feyenoord 5-0 go, with a look that said 'Are you mad'? I'd love for it to be true! :lolol:
