Portsmouth or Southampton???

So I graduate in a couple of months and have a job lined up at Fareham but I can't decided whether to live in Southampton or Portsmouth??? Both take about the same time to get over to the AMEX by train but having only been to Fratton this year (which my mate, at uni down there, says is the scummy place of Pompey anyway) I can't decide?

Thoughts???

Will you be working on the docks?

Southampton for me... Portsmouth is an inbred shithole... The average number of teeth per person is 3

Depends what sort of accommodation you will be looking for.

Well Fareham seems pretty dull and not much to do at the weekends, so looking for a nice flat with one or two of the other graduates

I lived in Southampton for a good few yeasr before heading back to the serene surroundings of Hove Actually. Like anywhere it has it's good and bad areas, but is a decent enough place to live; if not overly exciting for visitors. I also worked in Portsmouth for a while, which is by far rougher. A good mate lives in Pomey, in a 'nicer' area and he has had 1 murder and a drug bust in his street in the past couple of years!

In summary - Southampton is nice enough if uninspiring; Pompey is a hole!

I have worked in Southampton (quiet) and gone for a night out in Pompey (ghastly beyond my imagination). Southampton any day. And Fratton is one of the nicer areas of Portsmouth.

Shared flat + night life = Southampton. But then, how are you going to get to work in Fareham?

15 Minutes down the motorway you say. Car is the only way, the hold up happens when you get off the Motorway. Still may not be to bad. So Southampton it is then.
Friend of mines Son got a job in the Casino at Fratton, of course he didn't listen to his Dad and parked his car in the middle of the car park next to the Football ground. When he came out of the Casino the next morning he found the car completely burnt out. :lolol:

Chichester? Easy to get to work, easy to get to Brighton.

Chichester is a pretty decent shout. Its VERY quiet of an evening though.

But as for the orignial question, Southampton over Portsmouth for sure. Only places worth considering in Portsmouth are Gun Wharf and Port Solent. Port Solent no good if you want the possibility of walking into town (not that I'd recommend that anyway).
