Off to Porto for five nights on Friday. Anyone been and got any recommendations (things to check out/restaurants/bars) for me?

Any ideas much appreciated!

Definitely go and try one of the little Port tasting places right on the river (Douro).

And if you've never had one before, the famous local sandwich, Francesinha.

Estadio do Dragao is of course well worth a visit, even for a tour if there's no football on.

Do the free daily guided tour - it's brilliant - starts by the church with the big tower in the centre (Tower of the Clerigos).

You ***must, must*** go to the best fish in the world and cheap (go in the evening) - fish you'd pay £150 in a Michelin star restaurant - near
Matosinhos. Grilled on the BBQ. . Rua Herois de franca

The University area is great for bars.

We were there six weeks ago.

The food there is utterly brilliant. People fantastic and the transport system a dream.

The ceramic tiles on the railway station are pretty impressive. A river Douro boat trip is nice and the cathedral is fab too. As said already Port tasting is de rigeur on the other side of the river along with the cable car

If you only follow one persons advise pick this one spot on

The Calem port house tour is good. 10 Euro with 2 decent measures to try at least. More if you play your cards right ! There's a great wine bar high up on the other side of the river with brilliant views , particularly at sunset.

Boat trip and cable cars both offer free port tasting included generally too.
