Why bother soaking it overnight? Sheer posturing - and totally unnecessary. Microwave it - it works fine. Salt is optional - yes for me; alternative answers to 'yes' are acceptable if that's how you prefer it.
At the end of the day, oats is oats. A bag of oats from Asda or Sainsbury's is just the same - and just as good - as whatever designer oats you're paying twice the price for.
My wife feels that overnight soaking improves the flavour. Flavahans because Sainsburys often don't have their own jumbo oats. Stove because our microwave broke.

Incidentally, those huge grain silos on Shoreham Port are used to store Sussex oats that are taken elsewhere to make Scotch porridge.

Maybe sacrilegious but I just have Quaker oats soaked in cold milk, not heated or microwaved.

Oats are supposed to be very good for your cholesterol levels.

Me too, l simply don't have the time or the inclination to start mixing ingredients to my own recipe for breakfast, Quaker, or Scots Porridge Oats out of a packet, do me just fine.

I tend to sweeten mine with honey. There are days when I'll use brown sugar but, as you say, demerara.

If you have one, a rice cooker works quite well for oats; I use water, so can't comment on milk type. When cooked I add peanut butter, soy sauce and sriracha - I don't really have a sweet tooth.

Wow, what a load of faff. Flahavan oats (not the jumbo ones) mixed 2 scoops oats and 4 scoops skimmed milk, 2 minutes in the microwave, stir in some maple syrup and enjoy. Simples.

Snip top off sachet and add oats to square breakfast bowl, pour semi skimmed milk to red line on sachet then tip on to oats. Microwave for 2 minutes, stir gently for 1 minute then enjoy. Odd thread, can't the OP read the packet?

Oh hang on. You mean the bit where I customise with a spoonful of Cartwright and Butler Lemon Curd. Delicious!

Overnight oats for me. Add warm water from the kettle to make the oats smooth. Add peanut butter, Greek yoghurt (the real stuff, not the syrupy Greek-style blarney), chopped banana and sometimes frozen fruits. Food of the gods.

I cook mine with "no sugars" coconut milk and sweet cinnamon then stir in a handful of frozen raspberries and a chopped up banana.

On dirty days I chuck in a few squares (50g) of dark chocolate instead of the raspberries and add ground ginger and a touch of chilli instead of the cinnamon.

I can confirm that Sainsbury's oats are the same quality as the named brands, but you don't get a drawing of a jolly chap on the packaging.

Quaker oats, I leave them in milk for 10 minutes and then zap them for 2:30 minutes in the hot box, stir in a spoonful of peanut butter and sugar free raspberry coulis. Bliss.
