We need young workers to pay for the current and previous governments f*** ups regarding pensions. There's not enough now to pay for it so in the future we're all knackered.

I'm probably being stupid, but where does it say that 1 in 4 babies is non-white ?

It doesn't. The report has a graph indicating that nearly 25% of babies born in this country have mothers who were not born in the UK. Not quite the same thing.

What the country needs is people with skills to fill the vacancies as the country comes out of recession. Too many leave school without qualifications, interests or ideas as to how they are going to help themselves career wise, or any inclination in doing the jobs in those areas that are crying out for appropriately skilled people to do them.

Social work, nursing, head teachers, medical, scientific sectors, engineering, nuclear, rail, oil and gas, clininal research assistants and pharmaceuticals all have unfilled vacancies.

In some areas of the UK less than 1 in 100 kids go on to university, if we can address this issue then there will be less incentive for skilled foreigners to want to come to this country, but until we can fill the vacancies ourselves then it is in the best interests of the economy for them to come in, just as it was for Polish plumbers when construction was booming.

correct, but this will never happen. the government would rather save money by hiring overseas workers whose country's have invested $1000's and time into training them. all uk has to do is give them a visa which costs a few pence and voila! u have someone who can do the exact same job and give the exact same amount of tax to the government as someone who they spent $1000s training up. there's nothing in it for the government in the short term, so the gov lets in overseas skilled workers, and there is proof that overseas workers work harder. the gov would rather have the money saved from training a brit to fund there lavish lifestyles!

I have to say I agree with this... and get people studying relevant degrees too, that will help fill the positions we need as a country. Whilst I loved studying, even I would agree that my Masters degree in Conflict Studies (yes, I am a MASTER of CONFLICT) is slightly irrelevant in the workplace.

Rather than kick out the immigrants, why don't we just make everyone take a mandatory IQ test, and kick out the stupidest 30%?

This is a great idea..................so much better than raising tax to 50% for those earning above 100k and kicking out the clever ones!!!!

`Even though immigration made up a smaller proportion of the growth in 2008, the number of people coming in exceeded those leaving by 118,000!`
