Just far enough away from LDC
When the last one visited our school took a coach load of us to gatwick to meet him. Not sure if this guy will get the same level of treatment.

I was also in Rome when the last one died - by chance, and the outpouring was clear and not at all false. Again we may never see that level of appreciation again.

Our taxes are used as it is a state visit. The fact the world recognises the Vatican (in essence a working museum) as a state is laughable in the first place.

I'm sure lots of penance payers will be very excited by the CEO of their money making scheme being in town. I hope the Pope uses some of the contributions given by the gullable masses to buy a football team - may I suggest the Swiss team 'Young Boys'.

I'm not one to defend the Pope, but weren't all young boys forced to join the Nazis?

As far as i can work out, Yes.

"Following his 14th birthday in 1941, Ratzinger was conscripted into the Hitler Youth — as membership was required by law for all 14-year old German boys after December 1939" *

* Taken from Wiki so could easily be Bollox.

yes, but you're not forced to withold child abuse information, lie that condoms spread the aids virus, or, well, generally hold lost of nasty views.

A splendid use of tax payers money. Hope there are no nasty spitfires flying around the sky to offend him.

Whilst I'm not in favour of my taxes being spent in this way I'm sure a hell of a lot of our tax paying (and probably catholic) nation are. That's life.

I was on that coach. Newman must have taken more than 1 coach then, as you are a few years younger than me and were in a different year.

Questionable if it is a state as it only has "observer" status at the UN.

A few weeks ago, not long after the visit was announced, there was word in the media of someone who was pressuring for him to be arrested or denied entry for having knowledge of paedophilia and child abuse and doing nothing about it...not sure that that is a crime, although completely abhorrent...is there still a risk he might have the cuffs slapped on him at the airport?

my children's school are taking three coaches to the beatification and i think the same to the hyde park. our church are doing something similar. coaches are leaving at 2.45am and they had to draw names demand was so high.
