My favourite pope: Pope Gregory IX.

Lt George: "Who was it then, Captain?"

Blackadder (replacing receiver): "Strangely enough, it was Pope Gregory the Ninth, inviting me for drinks about his steam yacht, the 'Saucy Sue', currently wintering in Montego Bay with the English cricket team and the Balinese Goddess of Plenty".

Lt George: "Really?"

Blackadder: "...No, not really"

Having dispensed with the nazi, I hear they're bringing in a former South African hanging judge.

"I have convoked you to this consistory"

There speaks an institution FIRMLY grounded in the 21st Century. What an absolute joke. They couldn't get anymore ridiculous even if they gave the job to Carrot Head.

In fairness to the pope, those are the words of the translator. The original is in Latin, which, as Michael Gove will tell you, is the language of all the best educated kids these days.

Ssssssshhhhh. Bury this under the carpet.

He just didn't think the followed deserved to live: Romany's, The Mentally Ill, Jews, Socialists, the SA, Slavs, Homosexuals (except homosexual catholic priests).

I think he had issues with conspiracy theorists too.

Indeed my highest graded O'level is Latin

Abort, retry, fail
I knew he had joined Hitler Youth, as was required by all boys in those days, but I never realised he served in WWII and was held as a prisoner of war by the Allies.

He didn't do too badly for himself after that. Perhaps he found God later on?

Frightful upstart language. We all had to speak in Ancient Greek when I was at school or be thrashed within an inch of our lives.

We need to stop talking about the papacy, and remember this is a football board. Let's talk about footballs like the jo'bulani used at the last world cup, or the fervanova from thejapan world cup.

For me, though, the mitre is best.
