How do I stop the annoying pop ups that keep appearing. I googled it and then checked that the pop up blocker was working on chrome, which it is. The pop Ups are mainly Russian and Asian women adverts with some weight loss and erectile dysfunction adverts. None of which are of interest to me and it is very annoying having to delete about 6 before I can use the laptop. Any advice would be gratefully accepted and I have tried turning it off and on again so dont bother and also the Omsung Phine.

BG, you probably shouldn't be too surprised if an erectile dysfunction advert creates a pop up.

it started happening about 3 weeks or so ago and I havent seen him in that time., and it definitely isnt what I have searched for. In fact he is visiting this evening for the firat time ina few weeks.

OK.. a bit of useful advice..

1. Download malwarebytes (the free/trial version is fine), install and scan your computer https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
2. Make sure your current antivirus software is up to date. If you havent installed one, I am guessing you are using Windows, so use the built in Windows Defender
3. Scan your computer with it

Avast deals with points 2 and 3 but not point 1. They search for different things.

That is not the case here as I am very particular on what I look at with 3 grandchildren under 10 always about and looking at the laptop. I ioften getr e mails from these type agencies but never open them. They have obviouskly giot my e mail address from some site when looking at something.that I havent blocked.

He is right that adverts are tailored to your history but if they know you are over a certain age you are going to get spammed with that shit no matter what you have browsed.

For [MENTION=451]BensGrandad[/MENTION] consider installing Ghostery as an addon to the browser you use it blocks trackers which record your history and is effectively a very good adblock as the most anoying type of ads cant work without trackers

Just be aware that it now sets trusted as default (allows tracking) for each site unless you change it to default to not trust. Some sites will not work properly unless trusted (for example videos with embedded adverts) but you can easily click on the ghostery icon trust the site and refresh in those cases if you really want to see the content.

That sounds like a good start. Maybe make sure your Avast is up to date and that it runs fairly regular scans. Scan one more time with Avast after you are sure it's up to date. Reboot won't do any harm and then see if the pop ups go away
