[Football] Poor old Bury

C&N, according to the numbers published over the weekend, never had anything like the money necessary to take over anything (more debt than assets).

This may be delusional but I wouldn't be surprised if a last minute buyer didn't suddenly materialise, either for Bury or Bolton. Obviously I hope so.

Otherwise, a sad day for the two towns.

A last minute buyer for Bury only has 50 minutes to do their due diligence. The league won't give them another extension, there have just been too many postponements already.

OK, definitely delusional.

When Bury & Bolton go, it’ll open the floodgates. Accrington chairman reckons there are 8 clubs in dire straits.
Colin Murray said on Fighting Talk the next team up is already to go, for legal reasons he couldn't name them.

What do you suggest the Premier League does about it ?

Some on R5 said the EFL allowed the present owner to take over Bury without the due diligence eing undertaken. If that is true.....but this is just stuff someone said....

I believe he passed the initial tests but the EFL failed to follow up and do the second part - to make him prove he actually had the money to run the team. Shameful.

Also check out how the millions in debt was sold to the owner's daughter's partner for £70,000. Definitely something fishy going on.

Yes this Steve Dale character sounds like a chancer and a right piece of shit. Apparently 43 of the 51 companies he has been associated with have been liquidated, so he should never have been allowed to acquire the club.

The problem the EFL had though is that at the time he bought the club for £1 in December, he was apparently the only deal in town willing to take on Bury and with it circa £9m worth of debt. If the EFL had blocked his takeover back then, they'd likely have gone bust halfway through the season.

As it turns out, all they've done is delayed the inevitable. The seeds of this disaster were sown by the previous owner, when he overstretched in a failed bid to get Bury up to the Championship. He's ruined the club, and it looks like Dale is prepared to let the club die. What he stands to gain from that I guess time will tell.

Given a lot of lower league clubs are in a financial crisis is it not now time to perhaps reduce from 92 teams within our leagues to a smaller number. Do any other leagues in the world have 92 teams through out their divisions (can’t be bothered to research this if I’m honestly). This is only a question not my view.

It seems all very lazy to just blame the Premier League for hoovering up all the money.

There's so much incompetence, bad management, dubious motives and questionable finance going on, to say it's the Premier League's fault.

I imagine the land that the ground's on is worth a bit (even in Bury). Although the council could refuse planning permission for change of use - not sure how legally watertight that would be.
