For me the first really big Premier League game of the season. FA Cup winners against last seasons champions in the cup winners backyard, both having had dissapointing opening day results, no quarter will be given in this one with both sides desperate for their first league victory.

With guaranteed high drama, tension and thrills this one has all the ingredients to be a classic Premier League encounter.

I thought United were just immense tonight. Their short passing game is superb and the interplay between Andwerson, Rooney and Teves was sublime at times.

This football these top clubs play is light years ahead of even the Championship...

To be honest, it was lightyears ahead of Pompey tonight. All this talk of Spurs, Villa, Everton etc breaking the top 4, but in reality, in terms of football played the top 4 just continually pull away, Chelsea and United in particular.

Bollocks, manure winning. But the highlight so far, was when Manure started singing you've only got one song, then the Pompey fans come back and chant "We support our local team!"

I expect a lot of them's local team is the Albion!

What Dave said, United were cruising that game, and the passing between Rooney, Teves, Anderson was sublime. And Rooneys "goal" should have been allowed, not offside. They are so classy to watch, I wonder if Chel$ea, Arse etc will actually mount a challenge, I hope they do, and if they do, it will be superb to watch.

well, the three players you named cost 18, 28 and estimated 35 million ruddy quid respectively.

should f***ing hope they are better than players in division two if they're playing for arguably the most successful club in england, ever, and the current champions of england and europe.

I thought Pompey looked awful, Defoe and Crouch are no match for Harry's former fondness for African powerhouses!

As much as people may slag of Man Utd their football was superb tonight and don't forget this was without Ronaldo, Carrick, Hargreaves, Nani and Giggs who were all unavailable due to suspension / injury.

To be a little fair here, when they did sing, they have clear Manc accents. There are probably three times as many STH at Old Trafford who come from Manchester, than there are Pompey STH who come from Hampshire. I can't really be bothered with all this "local team" stuff. For all teams the majority of their support comes from their region, the glory hunters are there at all the top teams, not just at Man Utd. Get on a train on a Saturday at Horsham, Crawley, Three Bridges, and you can be outnumbered by Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham etc. shirts. And it is probably the same at Reading Station, Luton, Colchester, and so on all around the UK.

I am minded of the time we were driving to Carlisle, last game of the season, 2000 I think, we were already Champions, I was mildly suprised to see a "Cornwall Liverpool Supprters Club" coach on the M6. But I was astonished to see 2 more of them a couple of miles later, FFS, how can 150 people travel all the way from Cornwall to watch Liverpool, by coach, one assumes on a regular basis, that is a bit sad IMO.

Nani being unavailable is a blessing though!
