Political Correctness in music and sport

BBC SPORT | Football | Europe | EU against Fifa's quota proposal

First the Eurovision, with its blatant bloc voting tactics as Terry Wogan quoted 'its not a music competition any more' and now sport chiefs are not allowed to protect their nationalities.

Sepp Blatter I think was making one of his better decisions in proposing a quota proposal, but now it has been objected by the EU. But if you look closely the European Commissioner for Equal Opportunities is some Eastern European who wants to protect the interests of their own nationalities because there own infrastructure in sport is on a level that can't compete with the west.

Why do people have to play the race or human rights card all the time to get what they want? Why are we not allowed to protect our own sports?

The quota system will be good for the English game as teams will have to field a minimum number of players who are British by birth , so they will be able to play at the top level and not be edged out by overseas players. There will probably be a loophole whereby they will start the match but after a minute 2 of them will be substituted by overpaid foreign primadonnas on £120k a week.

With regards to the Eurovision I still don't think that countries vote 'politically', it's just that those countries have similar cultures and therefore similar tastes in music. Therefore they will like what is closer to their music than other places where it is completely different.

Right, so the Russians rigged the telephone voting polls in countries across Europe did they? Nothing whatsoever to do with bloc voting everything to do with the Russians taking the competition seriously and using marketing tactics most record companies here would understand in getting their entry known.

You're as ignorant as Wogan on this one.

Arguably Blatter's only good idea during his time at FIFA, and certain to benefit the English national team. Sadly, you can't see it getting past the EU rules unless there is provision for some sort of exemption in the legislation.

Plus how is THAT politically correct?

It's far from politically correct, if they ARE bloc voting. It's very old school Warsaw Pact style!

Eurovision met by the Brezhnev doctrine!

They're not bloc voting, if anything 4 of the 7 countries who gave Russia 12 points would not have done so if politically motivated. More to do with cultural similarities and a small but significant Russian ethnic minority in each country. It also helps if you send the biggest star you have who is also causing the moistening of underwear in the majority of teenage schoolgirls in the eastern bloc.

Usual bollocks from you.

What the flying f*ck has the Eurovision song contest got to do with "political correctness" or the human rights act.

I hate the Eurovision bollocks and always have, but is it honestly any surprise that we don't get any votes after it's well known amoungst the other countries that Terry Wogan has turned into one huge piss take.

What a wanker that Wogan is, moaning about us getting no votes but happily taking his wage whilst sitting in box taking the piss out of all the other countries.

Well - I wonder why they don't vote for us Terry ? :lolol:
