Millwall are playing so a big police presence, so why were 90% of them between the family stand and the disabled section?

Just asking, like.

and Lord B was stopped by the police too for a 'chat'. It's always the quiet ones, eh?

Understandable, I suppose ... that was the sharp-eyed representative of the filth who saw me supporting Newport County at the Dripping Pan last Sunday.

Unless it was that Krabappel woman you saw me talking to.

Could have been. Was just after your well-deserved lap of honour had passed the family stand. Congrats to all the Falmer for All team.

That would have been me, yes, so any illusions you may have harboured about Lord B being dragged off kicking & screaming to the cells were sadly mistaken.

Just saying hello, admiring Ed & Roz's certificates, and discussing whether the Albion's first half performance looked as good from the stands as it did from pitch level.

I thought Ed and Roz were looking especially smart before the game.

Smart policing these days, would not be done by exhibiting strength in numbers right in front of a few stupid yobs. That would only excite such morons to think they were important and SHOULD act in some way to wind events up more.

The Italians police that way, which is why their idiots become so animated as soon as they are in a mob.

If we saw hundreds of stewards and o.b. all crowding in front of the Millwall, that would probably only encourage the few pocket groups in other stands to kick off as well.

Well done the ob, this underlines why we have little trouble inside our ground, even though there are not huge fences and barriers penning groups of fans in.

gents and ladies,

The reason there were more than normal the small amount of police at the Millwall game is because the club and ourselves have agreed that every new officer that comes to Brighton and Hove will police at least one game in their tutoring prior to going out on independant patrol. Over a dozen tonight were in that bracket. The reason for this is that it gets the new officers the true perception of what real football fans are about and also because 70+ % of games at withdean are without police resources apart from me and visiting officers from the opponents force. It also keeps other officers aware of the different in policing these days from days gone by.

My philosophy in policing at Withdean is to treat you as I would want to be treated. We may not always agree on matters, but debate is healthy and we can always learn.

Its all in preparation for Falmer and keeping costs down for the club.

Thanks for the comments NMH re last night. You are quite right, pointless in us all surrounding the millwall fans.

so what's the rookie's view of us footie fans then? I wasn't having a pop at the police by the way. I was just curious as to why they were where they were.

Buzzer, put it this way. They understand that you pay money to be there and that we are not all extras in green street...

This obviously does not extend to Sussex Police at away matches.

My 2 sons have just been fined £150 each plus £20 costs and £15 to the victims support scheme, which apparently is now obligatory in all cases. For drinking in a licensed premises prior to enterering a sports stadium

They are normal 30/40 year old men who have never been in trouble at a football matches etc but still the police and Brighton & Hove Albion FC and the FA requested that they be banned from all football grounds for between 3 and 5 years. They pleaded guilty because they had had a drink,so they were guilty of the offense, but were not drunk by any stretch of imagaination as was stated by the governor of the pub that they were drinking in and by many supporters who they met on the train home who had seen the incident. Fortunately the chairman of the bench took a less sinister view of the incident and said he wouldnt ban them from football because he didnt consider the offence warranted such action, he jokingly added that they had already received a punishment in watching Brighton playing away. Sussex Police said that they were observed (CCTV) entering the pub and leaving the pub a long time apart, and had been seen to be drinking on the train, so they had obviously consumed a lot of alcohol. Sussex Police arrested them but didnt charge them just handed them over to the local police to deal with.

Anybody who knows me or my boys will know that they have been born and bred in pubs and their ability to consume alcohol is above the normal, not that I am praising that, just pointing out that them drinking 10 pints they would be better behaved than an average group of 18 year olds who only drinks occassionally having consumed 4 pints. One of them took on allcomers at pool both home and away supporters and remained on the table unbeaten until they left to go to the game so he couldnt have been affected by the alcohol intake to manage that.

If this is the law of the land why can people drink in The Sportsman and then enter the ground?

I'm confused - you seem to be talking a great deal about the alcohol and very little about "the incident"..... what actually have they been found guilty of? and what is the incident?
