I can't - if anything you'd be better off protesting to the treasury or your MP - but neither will make any difference.

Why can't you? If a business is not being taxed what it should be, and that sum is a large portion of the education cuts we're facing and we are on a demo that follows a route with a vodefone on it we're obviously going to be pissed at Vodefone for their tax dodging, it makes sense as to WHY we'd be there, not if its right, wrong or useful.

They're only tax-dodging if they're breaking the law, and I don't think anyone is suggesting that. If they should be taxed more then it's down to the treasury. Do you volunteer to pay more taxes ?

The word was that it was just another student protest (again) so It's good to hear this is on a differnet issue, that of tax evasion by very rich companies. i am glad this issue is now being brought out to the masses. This 'avoidance' is all legal and that's the problem - those at the top have been looking after eachother, always have, always will. hopefully protest may shame some into paying up.

However, like with the student protests, don't go too far and alienate those that you want support from.

on a side issue, how does this glueing of hands to windows work? do they need an ambulance/medical teams to release them? if i were a store manager I might be inclined to leave them there for a few hours and let 'nature' take it's course. I certainly wouldn't want hard pressed medical teams to be diverted to treating these.

Like I say this isn't my thing; i've only heard snippets of things about this so correct me if i'm wrong (i'm sure you will anyway) but didn't they have 6 billion "written off" by Cameron? That might not be illegal if its sanctioned but they've gotten out of paying a huge amount of tax which is almost equal to the estimated amount of money that the cuts to education will amount to.

I'm not up for an argument, and about to sign off, but you just re-inforced my point, if they were let off, then it's the government - not them saying they won't pay. Anyway, have a good evening.

Tricky out.

Fair point, i'm not going to deny its the government's fault but people will target the faces of what they feel is wrong. We're (students) targetting Tories and Lib Dems since they're the face of whats going on. These guys target the shops, even if its government sanctioned it is still wrong and grossly wrong too. Evening.

Strange argument. No, I don't volunteer to pay more taxes but equally I don't hire some lawyers to ensure that I can escape income tax.

There are ways to avoid income tax (many in the City, where I work, do) - this doesn't make it morally defensible.

It really saddens me to see the comments on this thread. Some people try to do a little bit to improve things and they get an internet fuckwit threatening them with a baseball bat.

Bloody hell. There was a SMALL crowd being heavily held off by police, they are protesting for something they believe in, as far as i know, they broke a couple of windows and then carried on with their business. PLEASE can people on here stop over reacting because these people are all students, you were students once. Also, being a student myself, i think it is completely outrageous at the new 'cuts', f***ing tory government.

Neither was I, has it crossed your mind that there's a reason for these cuts ? You may not have heard about our national debt. I agreed with the sentiments of the protesters right up to the time they started causing damage, how do they justify that ?

In my day (slightly before Dave's) students paid no fees and in fact many of them genuinely did treat Uni as an excuse to not work. A hell of a lot dropped out after pissing a year or two away at the taxpayer's expense. I was all for students having to pay for their education and still am but I bet fewer students drop out now they have to pay. You'll understand that because I was working while many of my peers were sodding about as students that I now don't have much respect for them and their opinions. I wonder who'd have won the last election if the voting age was raised to 25 though.
