Nice one Spiros, if we all took that approach in the road where we live I reckon we could have all those untaxed/uninsured cars off to the crusher and off the road for good, less congestion (fewer problems caused by uninsured drivers involved in accidents) and easier parking...result!

When I lived in Surrey the night patrol police would stop pick an area and walk around issuing tickets for untaxed vehicles while the owners were in bed at least it stopped them parking on the side of the road.

Theres a relatively new VW Passat sitting abandoned outside my house for at least two months now - no tax, no insurance. Surprisingly good condition, the cops say its not been reported stolen or used in a crime, etc.

So, in 4 months time I get to put a 'change of ownership - abandoned vehicle' request through, set of new lock barrels from eBay, about 7 grand of car to resell :D

Yes, they will your car flag up if a vehicle is shown as uninsured

What about if the owner does NOT have insurance, but the driver has insurance to drive ANY car?
It might be on a road test from a garage?

Anyone else have to negotiate the Hangleton interchange this morning to get on the A27 ?

It can be busy at the best of times. Even more so when the cops set up a vehicle checkpoint both sides of the road in those laybys when the burger / flower vans are. Traffic having to crawl through, tailbacks back past Sainsburys towards the Old Shoreham Road, and for what ? So the police can randomly pull over a few drivers who are trying to get to work, just so they can ask a few questions and poke around in the boot. And I counted at least SIXTEEN flourescent-jacketed officers (thats not including the ones who were no doubt loafing around in the meat-wagons) conducting this little operation.

Brilliant timing. Hugely worthwhile operation. Excellent deployment of resources. Well done everyone.
I totally agree with you about the delays they caused but apparantly it was worthwhile as they impounded 28 cars with no tax or insurance

I think it's the vehicle insurance that is kept on their database, so if the vehicle has insurance and registered on the database then you won't be flagged up.

Is there a fine for parking on the grass verges? I'm not talking about a couple of wheels up but the whole car. Where some of the verges have become so muddy, they now drive across to be half on the pavement. Where there's no verge, some will just park straight across the pavement.

It's a total lack of consideration for others yet neither the council or the police are bothered. Apart from damage to the grass, manhole/drain covers and kerb stones are being damaged.

It would only take an hour or so to walk the estate dishing out tickets to solve this anti-social behavior.
