So the police have asked fans for their input......but have put a totally different plan in anyway. What exactly is the point in asking in the first place then ?!?!?!

They have got this totally wrong, why send them down to West Street when pubs wont actually be open/serve alcohol - then escort them through town like last year ? Then why dont you hold them in for a bit ?

Expect a few threads on NSC later on that Sunday about trouble, as the police simply arent doing enough to prevent it.

Full minutes from nomoremithras4me. Again, many thanks for him taking the time to attend...

Meeting @The Amex, Thursday 28th Feb 2013 1830

I was invited along to the police & club meeting by Bozza below is a transcript of the events.

In attendance: Darren Balkham (DB), Commander Paul Betts(CPB), Sarah Gillespie(SG) & Andrea all from Sussex Police, Richard Hebbard(RH) & Chris Baker(CB) both from BHAFC, Phil Alexander (PA) & Kevin Safety officer (KSO) Jerry Palace Radio(JPR) all from Palace, Tesky O Neil (TON) from Seagulls over Burwash, Darren Paine(DP) from NSC & various fans from both teams representing their respective supporters clubs (apologies, but didn’t catch all of the names), representative from the Supporters Association (SA)

We arrived at the Harry Bloom Lounge and were offered drinks, food & an opportunity to meet other attendees.

RH opened the meeting and welcomed all to the club, he then invited everyone to introduce themselves to the room. The format of the meeting would be questions & answers.

TON: Would anything change from the match last season?
CPB: There will be more officers than there was last season, not prepared to discuss numbers for logistical reasons. Any anti-social behaviour would be dealt with fairly but severely. RH added the club would welcome Palace fans & extend all courtesy as BHA would to any other club. Other clubs are using BHA as a template for our hospitable nature.

TON felt that the game last season went well with the exception of trouble at the station & in town. DB felt that the early kick off time will limit the amount of alcohol consumed & therefore hopefully limit the amount of anti-social behaviour.

DP asked how many tickets Palace were being allocated.
RH said that they were allocated 2600.

DB has had quite a few meetings recently about how policing & stewarding could be ‘tweaked’ to make things better. He added that the police understand the passion & rivalry between the fans & didn’t want to take that away, but fans must act in a responsible way.RH said that there will be a couple of minor changes to usual BHA games.

The ground will be open for all supporters at 1000 & will remain open after the final whistle. The Palace supporters will not be held back but a one way system will be in operation around the ground. South & West Stand fans will be asked to turn right when they leave their respective stands, if using the park & ride they will have to walk around past the North & East Stands, this will make policing & stewarding easier. A special train direct from Falmer to East Croydon has been laid on, leaving approximately 45mins after the final whistle (1430)
Full details of all available information will be published on the website & this weeks programme.
PA asked if RH could email the information for informing the Palace fans via their website and match programme etc.

JPR was surprised that they will not be held back after he game, saying he didn’t think the Palace fans would mind. DB stated that you cannot pre determine holding fans back against their will. CPB stated that this could change on the match day & will be assessed on the day. As the match Commander, it will be his decision.

RH stated that the trains & buses would be operating a normal weekday timetable. He also added that a podcast would be recorded on Monday & invited fans to send in their questions. SG added that fans can submit questions via the following sites;

Sussex Police

DB stated fans can follow @suspolfootball for up to date information using the hashtag #seagullseagles

A question was about pre match drinking.
PB stated that the pubs in West Street have a licence to open at 0900 and would advise Palace supporters to head that way. The pubs around Brighton Station would open at 1000 and thought that the BHA fans would use their facilities. DB said that there were no plans to escort Palace fans in & out of Brighton Station but again, would be assessed on the day.

SA expressed concerns about queuing at Falmer Station after the game, stating that at the match last season things were being thrown off the bridge. RH advised her that a system was in place to hold supporters back at the ramps to prevent a build-up on the bridge. He also added that a lane system was to be used depending on destination. DB has requested that improved signage needs to be in place at Falmer.

DP asked what the actual capacity would be on the day
RH said the capacity would be 28500

PA advised that he was 99% sure the match would be beamed back to Selhurst

CPB advised that any ticketless fans would be promptly escorted off the site

RH stated that fans with a history of anti-social behaviour had been informed that they are on their last chance!

KSO advised that he would be bringing down a team of 20 stewards to assist with the Palace fans

RH advised all supporters to arrange with their respective coach operators to possibly extend the departure times after the game due to logistics.

CB added that he would be happy for supporters to remain in the seating areas if they so wished.

PA asked if the Palace fans would be allowed drums
RH stated that musical instruments are not allowed in the Stadium.

The meeting then concluded & we all stuffed our faces with more free veggie & steak piglets pies.

Probably, not forgetting the police will probably just sit back and film everything kicking-off, then do some raids in a couple of months to make it look like they are acting on things

EDIT - Palace fans WONT be escorted from West Street to the station ? Now that is a stupid decision - escort them all together, stick them all on 1 train and when they get to Falmer, escort them off and into the Amex - simple. Its going to kick-off, big time.

Is that a typo or are they really running a normal weekday service for this Sunday?

Stop being such a drama queen.

exactly, they all left quietly last year and will probably do this year, when there's no fences to segregate most people tend to LOOSE THEIR VOICE :hilton:

The way it should be, abuse away inside the stadium, try to act like humans outside.

If people thought that last year was bad and are shitting themselfs about this year, they would have prolasped and lost control of all bodily functions if they had gone to a CPFC v BHA game in the laste 70s...I can remember a full scale free for all football riot in Thorton heath back then , it went on for ages without the old bill anywear to be seen...tell the young today and they wont believe you!!

Astonishing really when you think about it. Wouldn't ever want to return to that, I can't run as fast as I used to be able to.

They only get mouthy when they are behind a police escort.

This bit is strange to me, pretty sure the Met had decided well in advance (were we not warned?) of the game we were going to be held back.

there should be some temporary fencing from the away end to the station so they are segregated.

this will insure minimum contact and eliminate the risk of catching anything and allow a clean shot from the bridge stone throwers.

seriously, we have this everytime we play them, completely over the top reaction.
yes, you will get small pockets of trouble.
yes, you will get all the homophobic stuff
yes, you will get stuff thrown and innocent people getting hurt.

we all know its wrong, but it will always happen unless both sets of away fans get banned from each fixture....... not going to happen, deal with it.

Sums it up really. If you can't deal with any of the above, think about staying at home and listening on the radio.

Would be a benefit of us winning, their fans will bugger off earlier whereas our fans will hang around more - easier to manage a home win i think as the Palace fans will keep their heads down.

Never know, if letting everyone out at the same time does somehow work, it might mean the Met Police wont hold us ba......actually the Met always will.
