Police arrogance? Do they serve us or do we serve them?

best thing if you that bothered by her or her policies is to go and then turn your back on her

Boo her when she was alive and compis mentis in any of the preceding 23 years when she might just have heard your protest or boo her at her funeral where the only people you will be upsetting are her relatives and friends but you'll be on TV.

I think that sums up my position in a nutshell.

Her relatives? like the daughter who calls blacks " gollywogs" and the son the arms dealer and convicted mercenary financier.

What I think is horrible...and I mean really upsetting,is the thought of a demented and scared old woman being shoved into the ritz and surrounded by strangers when she died...her kids couldnt give a shit about her when she was alive so it's a bit rich them flying in from Switzerland and America to feign grief and fill our TV screens with their stupid faces.

She wasn't even being looked after in her own Belgravia home at the end. Did no one else not wonder why she was in a blimming hotel?

Booing a hearse? Jesus wept. Where were all these Billy Big Scollobs a few weeks ago when she was alive? You could have stood at the end of her street and booed her as she came and went from her house. It sounds like you lot want to be seen to be outraged more than you actually pretend to care.

No idea where they were. I'm not overly interested either. In fact the Thatcher funeral is just a back drop. My point is the police now seem fit to judge what is good and bad taste, and what is good and bad manners. This is not their call.

I'd have thought yesterday in Trafalgar Square was the legitimate time and place to make a protest. To disrupt anybody's funeral seems to me to be a step too far.

Exactly.
Although the Outraged At Anything mob have not had many demos to go on lately. Most of us will be at work on the day of the funeral, actually helping to pay for this state funeral..........many will not.

Respectfully disrupt a funeral? There's an oxymoron for you. Have some class, FFS.

How can you lot claim to take the moral high ground when you're talking about disrupting a funeral?

Badfish said respectfully protest, not disrupt. These can be two different things. And has been stated this is a full blown public affair paid for with your taxes so people have a right to say something if they so choose. A private funeral and the rules would be different. I'm not advocating chucking eggs but if someone wants to have an opposing opinion to someone who is a supporter that's their right...which should not be denied them by the police.

I am in the neutral camp regarding Thatcher and her achievements. I'm just amused at all this new found outrage.

It has always been there; the past week has focussed it.

I didn't say cowards. I would call you lot attention-seeking hypocrites. If you feel strong enough to boo a corpse then why have none of these lot ever tried to let her know how they feel in the 23 years beforehand? I'd have thought that it would have been far more satisfying to have known that she would have heard it. She wasn't ill for all those 23 years, you know?.

I did. In '92 at at Women in Engineering meeting which she was a patron of. Told her very clearly and politely I didn't care for her or her policies. Not for the first time my advances on a female were ignored.

I was not a fan of Thatcher, but if I heckled at anyones funeral, I'd expect to be arrested.

A private funeral it would be disrespectful but this is pretty much a state occasion and if her funeral is going to be pushed on the nation and the public it stands to reason it will meet some resistance. I want to make it clear I do not support the disruption of it but I think people are perfectly within their rights to make their feelings known via peaceful means.

The couple of Southern-based based PCs I knew in the eighties both had a state-of-the-art-at-the-time VHS recorder called 'Arthur' on account to having bumper overtime payments due to being bussed up to the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire to beat the shit out of the mining community.

Came as close to a police state as I ever want to see in this country.
