My Dad Wrote A Porno. Someone discovered their dad had been writing erotic fiction, about a woman who works in the pots and pans industry, and made a podcast where he reads it to two of his friends. It veers from distinctly unsexy to utterly ludicrous and back again and is often laugh out loud funny. Book four starts in August so there's plenty of time to get through the previous three.

Just discovered how much more painless my daily commute can be with a good podcast on the go.

Fairly new to this game and to date have only been listening to the following:

The Magic Sponge (brilliant)
The Albion Roar
Albion Unlimited

Pretty much exhausted the above episodes now so looking for some new podcasts to subscribe to.

Any decent suggestions out there?

Untold: the Daniel Morgan Murder story, it’s the equivalent of The Wire for Podcasts i.e. amongst the greatest. All though it races along like a fictional thriller, frighteningly, it’s all true and explores the seedy world of Met police corruption and establishment cover up in eighties S.London with ramifications for all of us to this very day. A ‘white’ Stephen Lawerence-like story, the full truth may never be known and it has several links to that most infamous of crimes also given the geographical proximity of both.

You will, as the programmes byline repeatedly states, indeed ask yourself Why? (If you’ve not heard of]. Really, we should all be writing to our MPs demanding further Inquiries but even the Guardians renowned investigational journalism team have been scared off whilst others are tainted by News Int. who’s dark arts lie at the very heart of this, the most shocking story in British legal history. The tenacity of the Morgan family, and especially his brother Alastair, in seeking justice is on an altogether different planet. Simply must be heard to be believed. We started listening to on a long car drive so it’s ideal for commuting purposes. But don’t be surprised if you end up listening to instead of watching television etc as we also did. It’s an audible box set of blockbuster proportions!

Partly agree, The Ramble is grand and the OG, but On The Continent is a far superior listen.

Absolutely, that, the Euro Leagues Podcast and European Talk Show are the three I listen to for actual football analysis in terms of providing genuine insight across European football.

Then I listen to GFW to hear them chat absolute shite the majority of the time, mainly for Glendenning to be honest.

I hadn’t really bothered with Podcasts until about 18 months ago and now can can’t get enough of them. I only listen to football ones mind you.

Obviously Albion Roar and Abion Unllimited are excellent and must listens. I like the fact they come at the Albion from different angles. Roar are very much true fans and talk in a way and about things and memories in a way fans understand. Unlimited is very much from the reporters perspective.

Elsewhere, I find Football Weekly and Football Ramble are excellent. Totally Football Show is ok but I’ve gone off James Richardson as a presenter recently, seems a bit out of touch and boring to me but maybe that’s the idea?

Five Live’s Football Daily is good for a quick catch up on the days stories, Monday Night Club and Football Social on Monday’s and Fridays are very good too.

If you’re into European football like I am, On The Continent and the BBC’s Euro League’s show are excellent.

I listenen to that and concluded that whilst Brian Blessed is still around we can survice Brexit, Trump and WWIII. He's amazing.

Brian then tells a 15 minute story about how he climbed a mountain and had a Frenchman do a poo on his shoulder

Surprisingly low amount of love for COMFORTABLY the best football podcast - The Football Ramble. Analysis as good as Guardian, but far, far funnier with it.

I used to think it was great but unless you go back to the very very very beginning then you’ll never get all the call backs and in jokes which means invariably you can lose a bit of interest and not get vast swathes of entire episodes.


If not restricted to football genre then I would also recommend:

The nerdist/ID10T - Chris Hardwick effectively interviewing tonnes of writers/actors etc. For an American he’s not too gushing and gets high quality guests to talk about everyday things rather than just plug their latest work. Fantastic back catalogue to dip into.

Infinite Monkey Cage - science based comedy panel show fronted by Robin Ince and Brian Cox. If you like learning something new every week and want a few laughs along the way. Again huge back catalogue to delve into.

Unexplained Pod - fairly recent British pod with a single story telling narrative. Again if you’re into that sort of thing.

This American Life - WPP public radio Chicago current affairs pod. The exception to the rule that American journalism is sloppy.

TAL spawned the now famous Serial. Fantastic listening. Think an audio version of Making a murderer as each season follows a specific and true story from end to end.

This is gold. The Beardsley stuff is sooo good. Only topped by when Bob fails to do his South African accent. It's laugh out loud funny. I'd start from episode 2..
