Those refusing to wear masks will, if challenged, just bark back "I'm exempt". It really is that easy.

Do away with this nonsense shopping list of excuses err I mean exemptions and make everybody wear a face covering. No more bloody exemptions. Those selfish ------ who are happy to pass on the virus to those of us who are following the rules should be locked indoors if they refuse to wear something to protect the rest of us.

Then - once you have made the face coverings compulsory for everybody - it is much easier to police and enforce. The way Boris has allowed so many "exemptions" is bloody ridiculous.

1) Remove ALL exemptions from face coverings

2) You are refused admittance to shops, public transport etc unless you wear a face covering

3) The OB can start dishing out the fines to those who still try to use shops / public transport without a face covering

How simple is that?

This doesn't include those that flout the advice.
If you genuinely cant wear a mask then you will have been issued with a lanyard that shows you are exempt.
I know because my GF was issued with one for her ailment.

Hmmm I'm not so sure.

Putting my hindsight hat on, had those in charge gone hard after face masks 10 months ago, new laws, fines, blimey I'll say it custodial, facemasks would now just be the new normal and we'd be all the better for it.

I'm pretty sure at the time I would have moaned and groaned, but then again it wouldn't have been directed at me as I fell in line, as with the rest of the country, a little late but:-

'keys, phone, wallet, mask' is now my mantra as I leave the house.

I'd suggest it would be tricky to be 'that person' not wearing a mask when surrounded to an entire high street that is.

My wife has a severe lung disease and hasn't been issued anything. She hasn't gone out so doesn't require one however my understanding is you have to apply for the exemption lanyard.

of course, but when you put out a rule and dont even attempt to enforce it by giving everyone excuse to do so, we cant expect it to be followed. and that sets a tone for other rules.

As for exemptions! I recall watching a video release from a respected health advisor/instructor who stated that the amount of people who should/ would be eligible for non mask compliance would mean you are likely to come upon such a case around once in every six or seven supermarket / shop visits.

One genuine question that I have asked a few times but has got lost in everything else. As someone who is (or knows) someone exempt, is it possible for them to wear one of those face shield things ? And, if not too personal, if not, why ? Thanks

Do you mean the sunflower lanyard? I have a sunflower lanyard as I have a 'hidden disability'. My disability doesn't stop me wearing a face covering, so I always wear a mask.

The sunflower lanyard is given out freely (I got mine from my bank who didn't ask what my disablity was). You can also buy the lanyard online for as little as 99p, and an exemption card stating your what your 'hidden disability' for a few pounds.

Good example though (even if inadvertent) of many people’s desire to use Covid as a way of extracting some revenge for the Brexit vote and Tory election victory. Somebody further up the thread wonders why the Tories still lead the opinion polls and concludes with the classic theme of ‘anybody who disagrees with me is an idiot.’ Perhaps the answer is that people are not conned by the relentless anti Johnson propaganda. Anyway, it has been good to see the leaders of the four nations working and taking responsibility together even if it doesn’t suit the narrative.

I suspect that many would be quite happy that we had just that, had they managed to vote out Brexit! Although eventually of course our bungling Parliament did come down on the side of democracy by reluctantly accepting the referendum vote.
And never mind PR and all that on this case - there never was an option for being 52% out of the EU and 48% in!

I was referring to posters on NSC with an anti Johnson agenda over Covid because they voted Remain in the referendum. I think you know that. Carry on. I’m just pointing out that a lot of people can see through it.
