PMQ - Boris v Starmer - Spider And The Fly

That god for austerity if Corbyn had been in the past few years we would have been starting from a recession.

Now that would have been catastrophic for our economy.

The National Debt has tripled since 2010.

I was always very impressed with Blair when being interviewed and in a corner how he managed to talk himself out of it. One very clever and intelligent man, whatever else he was! I never voted for him either, which makes it even more irritating to me.

Daddy Boris (Grumpy Trumpy) must be so happy the Democrats doubled down on unvoteables.

Hopefully Starmer can buck the recent trend of dumbing down our political leaders.

Hunt was the Minister who accused Doctors of being greedy and underhand during the NHS dispute couple of years ago. He is not fit to be an MP, leave alone PM.

Not forgetting the Tories cheering when the nurses' pay rise was turned down, and removing the bursaries for tuition fees.

There have been a few references lately to The Lord of the Flies with that story emerging about the boys actually marooned on an island for 18 months. With the removal of the braying mobs on both sides and Starmer asking on the detail it does feel a bit like the arrival of the grown-ups at the end of the book.

It's a relief to see intelligent questions being asked. It should not be that difficult to provide intelligent and truthful answers.

Absolutely correct.

All it takes is someone who is prepared to put in the hours, work hard, check the background research, and is capable of dealing with a reasonable level of detailed information .................... Oh

It's only Mouldy Boots on another wind up, think Alf Garnett when you read any of his posts and you will be fine.

The difference being that Warren Mitchell always knew he was playing the part of an idiot and was in on the joke.

I recommend anyone to go on YouTube and watch the exchange between Johnson and Starmer in PMQs today.

What interest me is the contrast between Corbyn and Starmer. Corbyn's criticism of May / Johnson was always presented with a socialist slant, and therefor Corbyn's words were inextricably linked with his political philosophy. Starmer, on the other hand, keeps the politics out of it and concentrates on exposing weakness in the government's words and deeds. This way, he denies the Tories the fall-back position of rallying their backbenchers by just having a go at Labour - which is something Theresa May did time and again when Corbyn would gain the upper hand.

Starmer is relentless, but what is encouraging is the way he applies logic. A Labour Party under his control is unlikely to be tupthumping and ideological, but have policy shaped by consideration and need. This makes his party more agreeable to the centre ground. There is a long road ahead before he'll get an opportunity to govern but eventually I could see him emulating Blair in 1997 and winning a GE with a thumping majority.

I look forward to see how he gets to grip with anti-semitism and Momentum.

Has he still got a picture of Nigel, or Boris in a Union flag suit, or 'get brexit done' as his avatar (I have him, you know....)?

Honestly, it's only one short of walking around with your cock hanging out of your trousers :lolol:

Indeed, good points. As you say, the acid test will be when he has to present Labour's ideas and policies in a structured, credible and party-united fashion.

Easy to say with hind sight!

Lucky they weren't warned to prepare for a pandemic for years then. Lucky they didn't have a fair warning looking at Italy, Spain and China. Lucky Boris wasn't warned against human contact and decided he was going to shake hands regardless.

The present government has already said all public sector pay is frozen, and taxes will rise. £30billion pounds in debt so austerity Mk2.

Ok but what about the opposition ? And I am sure debt will be far more than that

If the last 4 years has taught me 1 thing, it's that the people of Great Britain don't like un-elected bureaucrats.

Underrated post, this.
