The James Street Vaults will probably be still there. The PCQ is still a dump (my local) but the beers ok and it does food. It's always good to be careful around here, I even had some idiot try to have a go during an England game when he sussed I was Brighton. This time of the year you can cover up when you walk through the park afterwards, so you should be ok. It's also my local derby! I'm getting loads of stick at work, luckily we have normally done well down here.

Does the Cider Press in the Barbican still exist?

Only been there once before and that was as a neutral, was dragged down by a housemate for a Plymouth v Blackburn game in about 1988. All I can remember about the game was that Ozzie Ardiles was playing for Blackburn and he got the worst abuse from the Argyle fans than I have ever known by any team for anyone. The reason he got the abuse, as far as I know, was for being Argentinian (the Falklands War was only 6 years before) and I suppose as Plymouth is a bit of a Navy town that might have had something to do with it. It got a bit tedious after about 10 minutes, after 20 I thought that the point had been made, by 30 minutes I was just thinking "brainless w*****s, Ardiles had nothing to do with the war, he was just a footy player and not a member of the junta"

Wish I could go this weekend. Last year was a great game and I love Plymouth to bits, 4 years well spent there. Hearing places like the Pennycomequick and James Street Vaults brings back great memories.

Can any of the janners tell me if the Fortescue on Mutley Plain still open? That was my local.

Fortesque still there - I used to use it a lot about 4 years ago too.
Matter of fact Mutley Plain is a good place to go for a drink before the game - loads of bars there now

You sound like ex RN, RB

I was based at HMS Drake for a while too.

My half brother was in the Marines and stayed down there when he finished his time having married a Janner. He did live in Crownhill but now lives in St Budeaux

OOhh the lovely Crownhill. I'm afraid I was not RN but student scum at College of St Mark and St John near Derriford, by the airport.

St Budeaux was quite nice, I seem to remember taking a coach load of kids from there walking on Dartmoor as part of my teacher training.

Also taught in Ernesettle and the round by the docks, that was a very different teaching experience.

This is the game I have been waiting for, I have supported Brighton for 30 years and moved down to Plymouth in December, my house overlooks the ground so after many years of away games I can at last walk to a ground and drink as much as I like before and after. If anyone wants info on best places to park for an easy escape let me know. Very few pubs close to the ground (the pennycomequick is a dump but best for the station and ground)but it would be good to know where the majority are going to, especially if you are from the south west as I know we have a quite a few in this area and it would be interesting to meet up.The argyle supporters are up for this one and they do create a good atmos, we may well struggle unless we have a good turnout, a must win game for both teams, should be a great day all round.

I will be driving down for this one so intend to spend very little time in Plymouth, but like you I have been looking forward to the game for ages. My plan is to park the car near the ground then grab a bite to eat before kick off (any ideas where you can get a decent pasty from, not too far from the ground?) or is it better to head into town.

Plymouth nige, sorry my PC skills are crap and I don't even know how to get an e-mail to you, but if you reply to this thread before 11.30 on saturday I will come round if not i will either go to the pennycomequick or city centre in search of albion fans, I live in Peverell overlooking the park.
To gully, my advise is to come off the A38 signposted plymouth argyle take a left into Peverell Park Road and park in any of the roads off of it, then walk across the park to the ground where the mobile food outlets including pasties is not bad at all.A quick walk back to the car for an easier escape than parking nearer the ground.

Ok, I live at no.5 Holdsworth Street, which if you go through the park and head for town you will see two roads of terraced houses leading down the hill at the bottom, I live on the one on the left (Holdsworth St.), at the bottom of my road is the old sorting office and over to the right along the road that crosses the bottom of mine is the Pennycomequick Pub.

If you have any problems phone me on 219516 or 07905086532
