Yesterday the water from the taps in my houses started to run without much pressure. When I turn the tap on the water splutters out, then runs at a normal pace for about 5 seconds and then goes down to little more than a dribble. This affects both the hot and cold water.

Can anyone on here shed some light on what the problem might be?

Is it just the bathroom taps?

Has the main kitchen tap got good pressure? If it has and its just the bathroom taps then the hot and cold to them more than likely tank fed. So could be the ballvalve in the tank stuck /blocked causing an airlock when the tank has drained due to usage and not being able to fill back up quickly enough.

If the water has been shut off for some reason recently then it may be just an airlock due to the tank draining, so one way to get rid of this easily is if you have a monobloc tap on the kitchen sink, put your hand over the spout ( tightly) and open the hot side, then gradually open the cold side so the cold mains pressure will travel back up the hot through to the tank and push any air out. Once you can't hold any more shut the cold off and let the hot drain back and that will pull the water through.
You can blow up the taps if you have good lungs, but better to do it with water. If you haven't a tap with a single spout use a hose pipe from the main tap/ garden tap.

If the cold mains / kitchen sink has low pressure then this may be burst main, or problem with the service. = contact water supplier.

Other than that you're fvcked.

Many thanks for your help. It is all the taps in the house that has the issue. The wife is going to pop next door to see if they have the same problem.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.

Had the same problem a few months a go. Water from kitchen and bathroom taps were fast flow then went to a slow to almost a drip. Called Southern Water they came out within a few hours and changed something in the street outside our house. Took the guy about 5 minutes and he said these valves stick and need replacing so often. Now a better flow.

Slightly OT but water connected in HH we have fresh water from Southern Water and the waste is dealt with by South Eastern, think it is that way round, but all is being transferred to Southern Water why is that? No doubt it will cost more Southern Water being French owned.

Our flats had a block recently and we had to call out Southern so perhaps I have it the wrong way round and the fresh comes from South Eastern.

The neighbors water is fine. Have tried to clear any air block using the above method, but no improvement. I will contact Southern Water. Thanks again.

Do you look particularly menacing and threatening or something?

You haven't had any mains work done in the street have you? Sometimes when this happens especially when contractors are involved , they tend not to take to much care and the result is a load of crap going up the mains. This usually stops at the main stop tap and slows the pressure to the house. Try opening the main stop tap fully ( then quarter turn back )if this is the case.
