And I think because are build is slow there is never gunna be much space for Cms to run in behind their defence . I'd like to know how many one on ones we have scored this season?

CMS is a very frustrated man and anyone with half a brain can see why.Like many have said we don't play to his strenghs,he loves fast attacking football and we offer super slow football, the channels and the last man is where he thrives,we offer zero in that department.

All our strikers are struggling and this is why,gus should be smart enough to work this out by now.I thought playing attractive football was good to watch, yet all we do is make errors and can't even pass, also the last third of the field is like a desert.I hope gus starts focusing on attack as this style is not working and many our players don't seem to enjoy it.How can you get the momentum going with slow football, swansea show how you play fast attractive football and thats the way we need to go. :)

It just worries me that from watching last nite nothing has changed since I went to the Watford game.

The whole team is still a work in progress. CMS has a 3 year contract so Gus has time to sign a midfielder who will play to his strengths although I agree with the poster who pointed out that CMS' form dropped off when Dicker broke his leg. Part of the problem here is that a lot of posters missed the simple link up play that Dicker did, preferring to highlight the times when one of his passes was read well by the opposition and cut out. Each season we are improving under Gus so have some patience and see how it works out. We are not the complete article yet by any means.

Good points, thing is Cms is not a young player and is proberly to old to change his game, so it's gunna take gus to change the formation to suit Cms.

So tell me where I'm wrong then.

The problem isn't with CMS, it lies with the quality of service he gets.

In the games where our midfield had a decent balance, with a ball-winner and some creativity, CMS was getting half decent service and he was getting on the end of things. Recently, we haven't had that balance in midfield and consequently, CMS has seemed a bit isolated.

If we can get all our players fit - Vicente in particular - we will be very dangerous. I do think Gus needs to look at a supporting striker (Barnes hasn't looked quite the real deal yet) and a midfield player who can really make things happen for CMS.

We will be alright, but the solution is NOT selling CMS who is one of the hardest-working players I've ever seen in an Albion shirt.

That is a very black & white view of football, there are very many shades of grey. See Hiney's post just above.

I don't think the intention of Gus or the team is to play slow football, that has been a product of the quality of our players, and their overall confidence, not a tactic from the outset. Swansea started playing their passing game under Martinez 6 years ago, and have had that long to develop that style right through the club, enabling them to appoint a new manager who would play the same way. They had their setbacks along the way, including losing to Havant&Waterlooville in 2008 with a 4th rnd tie at Anfield waiting for the winner, but ultimately it has taken them time to get the whole thing right, and the success they are currently enjoying.

As a club we need to stick with the team and the manager, because they will get it right, and it will be the football that we all want. Swansea as a continued example, following their promotion to the Championship had 2 8th place finishes prior to winning the play-offs last season, the comparisons are not dissimilar with our progress.

All this crap on here about playing to his strengths. He plays to OUR strengths. He has had plenty of chances of late that he has failed to put away. Not as many as he would like and nowhere near as many as he got last season at Posh but that is what happens when you move to a club who play in a different style, a division higher.
Juries out him I`d say at the moment but he never stops trying and I reckon he`ll come good.
Doesn`t look like a 2.5 million pound striker at the present time though does he ?

Just read the entire thread really think the OP has gone with the wrong thread title, just for the record CMS doesn't need to be sold.

At the moment he does seem to be having a crisis of confidence, last night was not his greatest game, but am struggling to recall who played well, but like all good strikers his form will return. Lets not forget he picked up one hell of a black eye saturday, put on the stripes last night and put in a shift. Fantastic final pressure penalty as well, dispatched with great confidence and technique. Yes technique one asset CMS doesn't lack just recalling goals against Leeds home and Derby away from the top of my head.

As for the system i think you, every other fan, Gus and I were hoping to get more out of Vincente this season and this just hasn't materialised. Everyone seems to agree he was meant to link midfield to attack and provide some killer ammunition for the front men. So then he tried Harley, and lets just say the most positive thing i can say about him is the jury is still out. So for this system to work at others have stated George Boyd would be an ideal candidate for the job.

Just remember Gus has not finished painting his masterpiece yet and i for one am looking forward to the final portrait. We are a work in progress and a finish anywhere between 8th and 12th would be a great success.

We are in the forth round of the FA cup at home to Newcastle, LIFE IS GOOD!

To be honest im not the biggest fan of our style of play as its mostly based around the defence and not up the top,you have wingers and midfielders and strikers back defending a lot and when we do venture forward its to late as the otherside have all their players back.

I would like to see gus adresse this problem as we,re wasting quality attacking players:(

Any manager, from any team from any style of play will tell you the first thing to get right is the defence. You cannot develop as a side if you concede too many goals. Get that part right, defending as a team right through the side, and you can start looking at your attack. I'm totally with what Gus is doing this season, we're looking a lot more solid again, and this will give our attacking players the platform they need.

The thread was over the top just to get the debate going. It just frustrates me a bit because I think we could be doing even better than we have been with a bit of tinkering.

You don't work for talksport do you? ; )

What would you suggest?

Am looking forward to seeing how Gus uses JFC when he comes back from injury. Really think it is the right time to unleash him and see what he can do.

Rite 1 has to go gus or Cms it's just not going to wrk. Cms can't play in a 433 and gus won't play 2 up top. It's driving me mad watching 2 nite.

I happen to agree with this.. Why slate them for their opinion... This is an open forum and people can speak freely with out having to worry about a big back lash from people. If you dont agree with someone just say that without slagging them off.. Grow up.
