Please forgive me for asking, but... (Football manager question)

I've only just got round to putting football manager on my new PC, and it's asking me for a 'product key'. I don't know where to find it! There is a link called 'How to find your product key', but when I click it I just end up on the SIgames homepage!

I know I'm probably being really daft, but can anyone help me please?

Is it worth dowloading the latest patch/update before I start playing? Where is the best place to download and install it from?

it's horrific... ripped off by their GOTY Deus Ex for one..
