Although the success of Swansea and Norwich might suggest otherwise! (QPR are struggling though.)

It's interesting that those two are used as a direct comparison to what we could - or should - be achieving, not just by yourself, but by others too.

Norwich are well-established club, who had no business being in the Third Division, with 26,000 (or thereabouts) STHs. Swansea's story is not dis-similar to ours (i.e. shit stadium to new stadium, even if the circumstances were a bit different), but seven years ahead of us. Both clubs were ready, and both play good football. QPR - Jeez...

We, on the other hand, have gone from a standing start half a season ago, we haven't even finished our stadium, nor do we have our own training facilities.

Incidentally, the point raised by someone else about us 'yo-yoing' will do us no favours if history is anything to go by.

And another thing, the Ipswich game made me believe that we're not ready. Why? We were cut open at the back by a mediocre-poor side who couldn't finish for toffee. Keeper beaten twice with two goal line clearances, poor finishing generally from them. That sort of stuff doesn't happen in the Premiership anything like as often, and you get punished more often for that.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love us to be in the Premiership, but only when we're ready. Going up doesn't mean you are ready, necessarily, and I don't think we are. Yet.

CONFIDENT PREDICTION: If we don't go up this season, with the progress Gus is making, I think we'll have a storming season next season.

If we spunk a load of money on players and dont stay up, we will cripple the club, much like Pompey, Southampton, leeds etc have done.

QPR are on their way to doing it. We cant compete for transfers and wages in this division, it would only be worse if we went up

Of course we will invest, the sensible thing if we go up, is not spunk a load of money and stabilise the finances and pay back some of Bloom money. Will it happen, probably not, look at the Arsenal/Everton (any team) fans moaning they didnt invest.

Get them on performance related contracts then, if we go down then their terms change accordingly. A number of clubs do this apparently.

Not "spunk a load of money". Spend a fair bit of the money we're given for going up (what, £40 million?) and continue to otherwise run the club sustainably. Tony's not an idiot. He gives Gus just enough to compete with, it's what he's done since day one with Gus.

We're currently able to get Man City players down here, so I do not see why next season we could not get a few choice loan players in to help out.

Just one more thing on the "not going up is good argument" debate.

So let's say we don't want to go up and will really give it a go next season.

Wouldn't the likes of Wolves, Wigan, QPR, Leeds, Leicester, Cardiff, Blackpool, Hull, Reading, Derby, Ipswich, Forest, Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Charlton all be saying similar same?

It won't be any easier next year, or the year after, or the year after ...........................................

Spot on. We got Vicente when in the Championship. I'm sure Gus could lure some exciting young players from overseas with the promise of Premier League football?

I have no idea and you may well be right but I would imagine that in the business plan that Bloom and his team are working to, promotion this season is not in the plan - and therefore I suspect not in any budget.

I have no idea how the Premier League money is filtered down - is it a one off payment that appears in teh bank overnight once you are promoted?? Not being flippant I juust have no idea.

What I do believe though is that for every Swansea there is a Bradford, a Leeds, a Charlton, a Sheffield Wednesday a Sheffield United - a Watford.

Watford are a real point in case. No ground improvements, no real big money signings and where is all the money and parachute payments??

It's been a great season and in all honesty I want to look forward to next season getting some better players in rather than loan players, another year of revenue at the Amex especially with additional seats before we plunge into the financial jungle of the Premier League. I wonder how some of our more fickle fans would react to a couple of 5-0 home defeats in August, a 7-1 drubbing at Newcastle and Poyet under pressure from a delusional crowd with wildly over-egged expectations.

Yes its being purposefully grim about the prospect but I really want us to do this in a sustainable, financially viable model rather than blow Bloom's fantastic work out of the water for a premature bang at the Premier League.

I am sure many will disagree - and I could be way off the mark.

When I look at some of the crap clubs at the foot of the Prem table, and look at what we could have next season i.e. 30,000 sell outs with all other aspects of the club in rude health and no interest repayments or debts to currently service I cannot help but think we could survive if Tony provides a sensible budget and Gus is shrewd in the transfer market. Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves, Swansea, WBA, Stoke. Come on guys, are they better placed clubs than us?

You've made absolutely fair points there. I'm not suggesting for a second it would be a walk in the park. Quite possible we'd come back down.

I believe in Tony and Gus enough to think they'd have a really good go at keeping us up.

It may not need "plenty" look at the impression Razak has had, just one player. OK, so it's only one game but both Norwich and Swansea have shown what can be done with a few strategically placed purchases. I reckon buying wisely and plugging about 4 key positions might be good enough ... after all the objective is to beat the bottom three and there's always about 7 or 8 teams in the same boat

True, but as I said earlier, we are still a new club operationally.

How much money would it take to get what we need? Is Tony prepared to fund that in one hit?

Tony runs things sensibly - he indulges in gambling as his hobby.

I like the way you start off with 'How do you know?' and then base most of your case on suposition.

Good questions all. As I said above, I believe in Gus and Tony enough that I think they would make us a team with a good chance of staying up. I think - thanks to Tony's prudence and Gus's nous - we can be better than the likes of Wigan, Wolves, Blackburn et al.

I'm pretty certain that if Tony Bloom got us promoted he would provide the means, in a sensible manner, to maje a good fist of staying up. He has done it this season.
