For me, I think the biggest change is that White, Lamptey, Bissouma and Alzate simply don't have the experience at this level and may be a little naive at set pieces. Murray, Duffy, Stephens and BDB weren't. (And being units helped ).

Maybe it's something we will have to suffer to a degree while they get the experience and coaching.

I hope that naivety can morph to guile in short time.

So you want to buy two strikers then, not just the one who is better than Maupay. Your post didn't specify that.

In an ideal world , yes. Obviously this late in the window that's not going to happen.

I just think to get the best out of Connolly a year in the Championship starting every game would do him wonders.

Absolutely - that's why I questioned the wisdom of sending Connolly out on loan!

I'm not sure it would, not now anyway. Strikers thrive on confidence, and sending him down a division now might seem like a confidence sapping downgrading to him. Anyway, I guess that's a hypothetical question now.

From a marketing standpoint I wouldn't sell players like White. They bring a lot of attention to the club, generate media and social media, and ultimately recruit & increase our global fanbase, increase our social media presence, sell shirts and merch etc, etc.

Honestly I think that growing our global fanbase is "part" of the reason for moving to attractive football, when you look at the bigger picture.

White is a central defender!

He is a good player don't get me wrong, but players in that position are vital but boring parts of a team. They don't have glamour, they don't inculcate a worldwide fanbase.

I love the former to bits, but who was the sexier player, Jack or Bobby Charlton? Who is the playing legend? (not managerial, of course). Strikers and creative midfielders are the players who sell replica shirts in Seoul and Lagos. They are the players who excite supporters, who raise the heart beat, who inspire the admiration and love and get little boys to want to be them.

I thought you were in the Advertising business??

And Leeds Utd's best player in 19/20, who won you the Championship.

It's like you missed a whole summer of media frenzy around that lad and you're stuck in a 1960.

I like the way you edited my post to omit Lamptey, another "boring" defender.

White and Lamptey have brought more attention to the club than all the other players put together.

I really didn't want to respond to this crap. I really didn't want to "bite". In fact I thought you had been banned by now, but that was the other one I guess.
So congratulations on getting a response I guess.

I don't think we're strapped for cash or yes we would have sold White

However we know TB and the club are pragmatic and this is hardly the right time to be anything but . . . . .

Assuming we sign no one today we have Izquierdo on his way back and possibly even Andone. he may be batshit crazy but he can score and he's on our books . . . . If needs must.

And how long we got to wait to c them two ?

I think there are many who seem to neglect the thoughts of the players and squad harmony in all aspects of transfer activity. Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy, both would have had limited opportunities this season due to the emergence of Connolly and White. Keeping them around would not be easy given the type of players they are. It's not as simple as "letting them leave without a plan"

As for Striker cash, I think if the right player was available at the right price, we would find the money e.g. Maupay and Darwin Nunez. What we're not going to do is overpay and given our history, I'm all for that. I think we can survive with one fit striker all season and I would imagine Potter knows he can get a tune the forwards he has. I'm not saying we're in that league, or that we have the players who can demolish teams in the same way but Barcelona did quite well with no "strikers"

It alright keep saying we r not going to over pay but it’s football ffs everyone is overpriced . Relegation going to cost a whole lot more

Question is, will Connolly improve more by Better playing against VVD, Tarkowski, McGuire Laporte, etc. Or...playing against Championship defenders.

I think I can guess the answer.

We are losing £25/30m matchday income and past seasons spent £50/60m on players. By my sums we are better off . We have also lost more high earners then 2 come in

We lose £22m a season (2018/19 the last accounts) and match-day income was £18.5m, so in a CV19 world with £8.5m being repaid to Sky, perhaps our 2020/21 losses will be £50m.

Wages saved - Muzza, Stephens, Montoya, Duffy, Kayal, Schelotto and Mooy, just guessing that’s £15m, but Lallana and Veltman must be on good contracts.

Cant see we will lose money if unlike other seasons we spend little on transfers and dont have the additional expense of extension to training ground. Also hopefully profits will be coming in soon from Ikea and house development. Assume we wont build so will have sold off to developers or on a profit share

Easy to say when it isn't your money. If you really think Tony Bloom needs to invest even more money, then perhaps you need to start a campaign to replace him ?

You're assuming that it even is money that is the issue

Transfers are ammortised over the length of hte contract.

So if Ali J was £16M over 4 years, we reported that as £4M/year.

So our accounts for this period will still include all the transfers we made over the last couple of years. So yes absolutely we will still lose a lot of money, because we haven't sold anyone. Coupled with loss of Sky money, loss of matchday incoming (£25M+ a year?)

we know Mr Bloom is very good with money/ investing/ gambling/ actuary/ futures.......in short him and his crew are smart cookies , we are still smarting over getting knobbed by manure and a shit ref and frankly getting slightly outplayed by a team that have spent 200 million in the transfer market ......if we stay up , and i think from the type of ball we are playing we will , we will have a net loss better than quite a few other teams .......villas 7-2 spanking of the red shite needs commenting on though , i mean ffs ...!! where did that result come from..??

Arrogance in thinking they would win just by turning up coupled with thinking they could just outscore the opposition at will. Seems Villa had one of those days where everything they hit went into the net, we are currently at the other end of that spectrum, everything the opposition hits ends up in our net.

Much as I dislike Villa I loved that result.

Utter, utter nonsense. You clearly haven’t watched either of them play then so should stop discussing this now as your opinion is not valid.

I've seen every minute they've played or us, at least once.

In an effort to have an adult discussion ahem

I think everyone wants us to progress this season so we presumably are now aiming to finish in the middle third.

So the teams we are competing with could comprise the following

Burnley - Wood, Vydra, Barnes
Palace - Ayew, Batshuayi, Benteke
Leeds - Bamford, Rodrigo
Newcastle - Wilson, Carroll, Loelinton
Sheffield U - McGoldrick, Sharp, McBurnie
Soton - Ings, Adams, Long
WHU - Antonia, Haller

You could chuck in Villa with Watkins and a couple who are injured but they have the luxury of Grealish who will get around 15 this year.

So we need to compare our strikeforce with them.

Trying to be objective, how do you think we compare?
