So basically larus you're wondering if we get some big money bids in for our young team.

A team by definition which would have to have:-

- A rock solid defense.
- An attacking midfield with solidity AND flair.
&
- A number 10 pulling the strings up front.

All under 25 years old.

I don't know if you got involved in the 'season long prediction' thread but if you had that team outside the top 6 you need a rethink.
Woe betide you if you also think 15th is a good finish this season.

Begging the question:-

'Which clubs will we be in serious risk we could lose more than one before the start of next season too, exactly?'.

In case you hadn't noticed I'm #Team sheebo - Or he's #TeamStat, (dunno who was first when it comes to highlighting the double edged sword of 'too good for lil old Brighton' negativity).

Selling players for large fees hasn't done Southampton too badly over the years, has it?

The time to start worrying is when nobody wants to buy your players.

100 percent correct (although I do wonder where all those large fees went).

The key is to sell from a position of strength. When Leicester sold Maguire a year ago, ill-informed people assumed they would be spending a large part of the fee on a replacement. But of course Leicester had already brought in the replacement (Soyuncu) 12 months before.

So if we do get offers we can't refuse for, say, Bissouma, it will soften the blow if we have a ready-made understudy (maybe Molumby?) to step in.

Whoever came first is irrelevant - the fact we came together is all that matters. Magical moment x

Ely, Cambs.
None of the mentioned players are going anywhere within the next two weeks, the market is too slow, the club too unwilling to sell and plenty of the players mentioned are too fresh at this level to be considered by the big dragons.

The only potential "big out" is Davy Pröpper. Ajax need midfielders and if they come waving their fat wallet there could be some action: £20m or so is good, Pröpper would improve his chances to go to the Euros and Bissouma, Stephens, Alzate and Molumby might be considered enough to replace him. Its the only potential big sale in the coming month, as I see it.

Ajax selling van Der Beek to Utd for 40 mill only increases that likelihood.

Rumours surrounding that we've been offered a six pack of crisps for Locadia, so could see him off anytime soon.

Just reaffirmed why I scroll over your posts. Usual self-important drivel.

NEXT season. We’re already in THIS season. THIS season started with the Charity Shield.

As I just wrote on the Bisouma thread, I find views like this very negative and scaremongering. Let’s just enjoy the players we have and enjoy them. Lamptey has played about 4 games ffs - we won’t sell him now and probably not in a year either. We’re an established prem club now - let’s stop the pessimistic talk on here about losing people and enjoy the chase for improving the squad. Did the Dunk false rumour and 100 odd page thread based on one fans tweet and Dunk not being in some photos and Paul Camillin’s comments on the roar about it not teach us anything on here?! Just my opinion larus nothing personal against the thread.

Totally agree about Lamptey. If Chelsea couldn't persuade Tariq to stay then there must be something good going on here. Same with Lallana who also must have had interest higher up the league. All this just fills me with optimism

Seemingly we aren't allowed optimism.
We're just here as fodder for the big clubs.

I don’t understand the sensitivities of some by asking a reasonable question. I’m not deluded enough to think that players may aspire to play at the highest level and that, (sorry if this is viewed as negative), isn’t us. I don’t suffer from Leeds syndrome and am realistic that, if we get players who are performing at a high enough level, these will be targets for the big boys.

Actually, I would view my position as optimistic - as it demonstrates that the plans of the club are working in terms of culturing talent and astute signings.

For me it's all the reasons, and more, you suggest in the second part.
I'll add to that the age of all these exciting kidz and their mix of home grown talent and continent flair.

As said earlier these 'boys' have the world at their feet and we have front row seats.

I, and possibly at least sheebo as well, don't understand the desire assume a phenomenal season, gloss over what that would do to the club and where that could take ALL OF US, in order to get to selling off the family silver.

if we get players who are performing at a high enough level, these will be targets for the big boys by association with those you highlight 'we' are even further away from minnows there to be cherry picked.

You don't eat Black Forest Gateaux before you have prawn cocktail.

I guess someone will read that even if you don't.

Ah ok.. well thats a very long time from now. From how it looks now more than half the team could be interesting for bigger clubs. Think most bids will be turned down anyway. Sure, one or two great players might leave every summer if this level of scouting/player development continues but there will be no plundering.

I don't quite see the concern about selling some of our players (not a lot of them, certainly, and not all at once) - TB's aim is to make us, as near as possible, self-sustaining, is it not? Selling youngsters we don't think we'll make the PL grade for a few hundred thousand - or even a million or two - is fine, but to achieve sustainability we need to sell the odd £20M/£30M/£40M/£50M player - preferably from our CB production line! - once in a while.

I don't have a problem with that - as someone else has said on this thread, it's done OK for Southampton over the years.
