Hart 6 - No chance for the goals, decent handling when called upon.
Johnson 7 - MOTM strong going forward and a continual outlet.
Baines 6 - Poor first half, was more of a threat second.
Cahill 6 - Should have tracked Suarez but was the pick of the defenders up until then.
Jagielka 4 - Limited and needs replacing if we are to improve as a side.
Henderson 5 - Works hard, covers huge amount of ground but lacks quality going forward.
Gerrard 5 - Seems cursed at the moment as costing his teams crucial goals. Up until his poor header he was one of our best players.
Sterling 6 - Glimpses of real quality, looked more of a threat central against Italy.
Welbeck 6 - Can't fault his work rate or endeavor, would have liked to see him isolate their full back more often.
Rooney 6 - Responded well to the press reaction from the Italy game. I have a feeling he might score one or two against Costa Rica for what it's worth.
Sturridge 6 - Great touches and played a huge part in the goal, but the ball didn't stick as well as it did against the Italians.

Subs
Barkley -5 Potential, but decision making needs to improve.
Lallana - 5 Not hugely involved
Lambert - 4 Every touch was poor in the limited time on the pitch.

Naive defending again has cost us and at this level you cannot afford to gift goals like we have.

I don't expect we'll see many more scores posted now that all those who were at the match have given their view - we all know how derided those posters who rely on a stream are when they post scores on our games, so, clearly, no-one who wasn't at the game will post.

Is that the Wayne Rooney who only had two shots on target in three hours of football, one goodish half doesn't make a great player

He isn't a great player, but right now he's about the best we have as he showed in qualifying and as he showed last night. Always the man most likely and unlucky not to score a hattrick. What did Barclay and Lallana achieve in their performances? What did Wellbeck bring apart from workrate? We've scored twice in two games and Rooney has a goal and an assist.

He missed a header from 1 yard and 2 glaring opportunities from a combined distance of 12 yards. How you can compare Barkley and Lallana's contributions to Rooney is puzzling, what are they going to do with a 25 minute cameo that the entire team couldn't manage in 2 games?

I thought that we played much better against Italy. Was that because we lost Sterling's contribution, he was pretty much invisible last night. Should he have been moved to accommodate Rooney?

But Rooney did manage it in two games. He got a goal and an assist. People were raving about Cavani's cross for Suarez which was almost identical to Rooney's pass to Sturridge on Saturday. He's performed IMO, it's others who have let us down

Rooney was lively but had at least 2 chances that he should have probably done better on. Feel sterling would have played better if he had played same place he was against Italy.

overall think that we didn't defend well too many silly mistakes and when we attacked we slowed the pace down to much allowing Uruguay to track back and get men behind the ball.

Two evenly matched teams separated by...
Suarez - 2 chances - 2 goals
Rooney - 3 chances - 1 goal
He was not unlucky. He should have buried the header from less than a yard and the chance from 7/8 yards was a poor finish - GK should never have had a chance of saving it.

Suarez is up there with the best players in the world and this tournament. England simply don't have that.

'Rooney did well' :lolol: Wasn't the worst on the pitch but I don't think you can say he did well. Difference between a decent player and a 'world class' player were really highlighted in the Rooney/Suarez battle last night. Suarez is in the same league as Ronaldo and Messi in my opinion, Rooney isn't even close.

Baines, Jagielka, Gerrard and Sturridge in particular should be pretty ashamed of their performances. Welbeck was just as shit as we expected him to be.

Not a chance Hodge will keep his job, but god knows who we can bring in to sort out the current mess.

Hey we got beat last night and against Italy, surely evryone saw this coming, I just can't believe the surprise on here and in the press. The manager picked the best that he could and against Italy pressed forward positively. But these games are won and lost on margins and as it was we have lost due to individula mistakes, a chain is only as strong as its weakest links. I'm not dispondent, we really need to take a reality pill in this country and see our national team for what it is. I'll always cheer them on, but come on guys it was on the cards.

The whole 'we played well against Italy' thing is quite perplexing. We passed the ball, got nowhere, created nothing and got done by two incisive finishes. By that logic, Brighton played well in every game last season.

Uruguay has a population of 3 million and are playing players like Sebastian Coates, who has made what, 10 first team appearances in the last three years? Oh and they got smashed by Costa Rica last week. They are not a good side by any means, and to not even take a point against them whilst in the predicament we were in is extremely poor.

Also, Danny Welbeck is not even close to being 'the best Hodgson could pick'. As for bringing off Sterling after 60 mins.. clueless.
